They say timing is everything, and that is very true in the case of Lee and Diana meeting. Diana, originally from Illinois, moved to Maryland in the 1960’s to get a job working for the federal government. She worked full-time at NIH while putting herself through an associate’s degree program at night. Meanwhile, Lee had to take one class after his return from serving overseas in the U.S. Navy; that class was accounting. Fortunately, according to their daughter, they wound up at the right place at the right time.Lee and Diana built a life around faith, community, and hard work. They are active members of their church in Damascus, Maryland, and spent years volunteering for different local organizations; Lee at the Isaac Walton League and Diana at the Frederick Food Bank. For each other, they’ve also been steadfast teammates. Literally, for decades they played co-ed softball as pitcher (Diana) and catcher (Lee). In later years, Lee supported Diana in every step of her battle against breast cancer. Their faith and friends were critical during this time. Eight years later, Diana is well and the pair are stronger than ever.Lee and Diana are proud parents to three children. They have one grandson and two step-granddaughters. They enjoy camping in their RV, spending time at their lake house in Virginia, and visiting with longtime friends in the area. Lee still fishes, and Diana “accounts” for missing puzzle pieces to help out a local thrift store.
The couple was married in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972. They have resided in Clarksburg for more than 40 years
