Rachel and Fernando met in 2018 at Brewer’s Alley. “I was there to pick up my roommate, and Fernando was there with some friends from work. He sent a coworker over to me to see if I’d be interested in having a conversation. I initially said no, until the coworker pointed Fernando out. I thought he was super cute and quickly changed my mind and waved him over. We made a breakfast date for the next day. Fernando was having car trouble that morning and was over an hour late, but called me every 10 minutes for that hour and begged me not to leave. We’ve been together ever since.”
Fernando played minor league baseball in Puerto Rico for the first few years of their relationship so the couple dated long distances for much of their early relationship. “We got engaged in March of 2021. Fernando had planned a big proposal for thanksgiving of 2020 in front of my extended family, but due to covid, we didn’t end up gathering. So, with lots of help from my family, he set up a beautiful proposal in my backyard. He put out candles and decorations with help from my mom & sister. Penguins are my favorite animal, so he tied the ring to a pebble, similar to what penguins do when they find a mate, and got down on one knee.”
130 guests, including an 11-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their April nuptials at Stone Manor. “We were very fortunate to have our ceremony outside, it was supposed to be a rainy day. The ceremony was beautiful, our family friend and pastor was our officiant. We had family members perform readings and say prayers.”
The couple was drawn to a semi-formal wedding look with spring colors. The bridesmaids wore sage green, and the groomsmen & groom wore gray and navy. The bouquets were white and pink flowers with eucalyptus. “We loved getting to see the blending of our two families and two cultures who haven’t gotten to interact up until the point. Everyone was so happy and dancing together and mingling, it was beautiful to see.”
