Spring Ostertag Vistas Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Katie + Tom

Katie and Tom met in 2018, shortly after Katie moved to Dayton, Ohio. “When I arrived in town, I went to church that Sunday. After Mass, the parish was advertising a 20s & 30s summer BBQ. I decided to go, and that’s where I met Tom. We later discovered we worked across the street from each other, and Tom asked me to get lunch with him. Our lunches took entirely too long as we had so much in common and enjoyed getting to know each other. Work lunches became weekend lunches and weekend lunches led to our first date in January 2019.”

The couple got engaged in 2020, at the height of COVID. “No restaurants were open for dining, even outdoor dining. When Katie had the idea of a ‘make-up’ Christmas dinner, I knew this was my chance to make it work. On the day of the proposal, my mom suggested that we all dress up for dinner and pretend we had somewhere to go. Katie loved the idea. After dinner, I had her family FaceTime me for the main event. I asked everyone at the table and online one by one why they love their significant other. Once everyone had gone, I told Katie why I love her, and that’s why I want to ask her to marry me.”

Ostertag Vistas, which is owned by Katie’s grandparents, was a natural place to hold their wedding reception. “I had spent so many years watching other people get married there as a child. For us, Ostertag represents family, and no other wedding venue could compete with that.”

110 guests, including a 13-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their May wedding ceremony, held at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church. “My brother played the piano for the psalm, and one of my bridesmaids did the vocals. Our music consisted of timeless hymns on the organ or piano with a very talented soprano cantor.”

Katie repurposed her mother’s veil, and their cake utilized Tom’s parent’s cake topper. They had a bubble send-off into a red convertible mustang. Katie is a mechanical engineer, and Tom is a developmental engineer. They currently live in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Sarah and Joey met in 2015, during their freshman year at McDaniel College. “We took Spanish 101, and our final exam that semester was to tango with a partner. We got partnered up, and the rest is history.”

75 guests, including a 12-person wedding party, celebrated their outdoor May wedding at Strong Mansion. “We chose this location because it allowed guests to see the true beauty of the mountain and surrounding areas. We wrote our own vows, and it is a memory we both will cherish for the rest of our lives.”

The wedding color palette focused on navy blue tones with cream accents. “We wanted the perfect twist of formal and cocktail. The string quartet added the formal ambiance we were after, while small details made the day more laid-back. I think the most special thing on our day was having our dog, Ollie, there. Ollie had a floral collar and walked down the aisle for the wedding. She stayed for cocktail hour, too, where she was the official greeter for all of our guests.”

“My wedding band is modeled off of my grandmother’s wedding ring. The gold base of my ring is repurposed family gold from generations prior. Joey’s band is made of repurposed family gold from his family, too. Our wedding took place in May because both sets of parents were married in May, and we wanted to share this month with our greatest role models.”

Sarah works for Frederick Health, and Joey is the owner of Creek Vintage, where he re-sells vintage memorabilia and clothing. They currently reside in Frederick.

Modern and Rustic April Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Paige + Eric

Paige and Eric met at a wedding in 2017. “We met at my brother’s wedding, where I stood as my brother’s ‘best man’ and Eric was a groomsman. Little did we know it was the start of our very own forever love story, and we’ve been together ever since.”

Eric proposed at their home in July of 2020. “It was so special to have such a positive life change in what, for many, had been such a difficult year. Eric presented the ring on a king crab leg. It was the surprise of a lifetime. It sounds quiet, but for us, it was perfect.”

125 guests, including a six-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their outdoor April nuptials. “Our ceremony was in the woods, under a beautiful wooden arbor, draped in the most stunning florals you can imagine, surrounded by our closest family and friends. We were married by our dear friend, Jason, who was able to make it so beautifully personalized. It was the most special thing we could’ve asked for. The details of our love story that he was able to incorporate into the ceremony are something we are so thankful for.”

The couple chose a rustic and modern theme for their decor. “The feel was formal but so warm. The colors were slate blue, with tons of greenery and ivory as well as pops of copper. Our florist, April, incorporated a fly fishing tackle belonging to his late brother. It was so beyond special to have that close to Eric’s heart on our big day. We had a hanging ladder above our head table with the most beautiful flower arrangements. It set such a tone. Our seating chart was a champagne welcome wall. Guests grabbed their glass off a greenery wall that coordinated with their table number and then brought them inside for a welcome toast. We were surrounded by candles, lanterns, draping, chandeliers, flowers, and greenery. It was a dream.”

Paige works at Colonial Jewelers in Downtown Frederick, and Eric is a middle school teacher in Clarksburg. They currently reside in Frederick.

September Bluebird Manor Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Mckendry + Matt

Matt and Mckendry met during the opening of Texas Roadhouse in Frederick in the summer of 2014. “Our first date was at Brewer’s Alley in downtown Frederick and after that night we were inseparable. We dated for a little over six years before we got engaged.”

The couple got engaged at the Georgetown Waterfront in October of 2021. “Matt surprised me with a night away in the city and reserved a suite at the Park Hyatt. After arriving at the hotel we got ready for our dinner reservation which was still a surprise location to me. Once ready we went for a walk down to the waterfront. Walking through the park Matt listed off all the things he loved about me and our relationship over the last several years and then got on one knee once we hit the end of the park right in front of the Potomac. It was the perfect intimate proposal.”

75 guests, including a five-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their outdoor nuptials in September 2021. “Our wedding ceremony was very personal. McKendry’s sister Elyse was our officiant and added many personal touches. We also included a black and tan unity ceremony to give a special nod to Matt’s career as a brewer. It was a big hit.”

“Our color palette was terracotta and slate blue with pops of neutrals and rich fall tones. We went for a semi-formal feel as we wanted it to be nice but also not too stuffy for our guests. We took a moment away by ourselves under the sunset to take everything in and McKendry’s cousin sneakily caught beautiful footage of the intimate moment on his drone. This ended up being one of our favorite moments of the night along with the entire room singing along to ‘thats a’more’ during our cake cutting.”

Mckendry is a hairstylist at Bella Bethesda Salon and Matt is the Brewer at True Respite. They currently reside in Frederick.

Julia and RJ met in 2019 when they were set up for a first date at Memories Charcoal House in Mount Airy. “We were inseparable after that. All it took was one date and we were both hooked.”

The couple got engaged in Myrtle Beach on the Fourth of July in 2020. “We had gone for a walk on the beach. When we got back to our chairs, I told him I was going to go for a dip in the ocean, and he told me he was going to stay back and relax. As I’m walking out of the ocean, I look up, and I see him down on one knee. Talk about surprised. It was the most magical moment.”

100 guests, including a 17-person wedding party, were in attendance for the couple’s late October nuptials at Ceresville Mansion. “Our wedding ceremony was supposed to be outside, but unfortunately, those plans got canceled as it was pouring rain all day. We had one of our best friends marry us and my dad walked me down the aisle. As soon as RJ and I met eyes at the end of the aisle, I watched him get emotional as I walked toward him in my wedding dress. It was such a special moment that I will never forget.”

Both RJ and Julia grew up just outside of Frederick and knew they wanted to be close to home for their big day. “Ceresville Mansion immediately stood out to us for a couple of things, first being the staff. The entire team bent over backward to accommodate all of my requests. They were truly amazing from start to finish.”

As a sweet detail, Julia had a family Bible attached to her bouquet. “Both my grandmother and mother carried this Bible on her wedding day.”

Julia is a Client Service Associate at Stifel Nicolaus and RJ is the owner of Carroll Community Landscape. They currently reside in New Windsor, Maryland.

Kacie and Liam met in a history class in 2015 during their last semester of community college. “We didn’t talk to each other until about halfway through the semester when I brought in snickerdoodles to try to get Liam’s attention. Lucky for me he had quite the sweet tooth and didn’t turn them down.”

The couple got engaged in 2018 while on a hike in New Mexico. “I decided to take her back to the top of the mountain, where it felt like the top of the world, to propose to my whole world.”

Fifty guests including a four-person wedding party helped the couple celebrate their nuptials at Linganore Winecellars in October.

“We toured quite a few different venues throughout Maryland, but ultimately knew Linganore was the one for us. When we first walked out to their ceremony lawn, the view was just incredible! The way it overlooked the vines, the big open sky above, and how intimate it felt out there – everything about it was amazing.”

The couple chose a rustic color palette of burgundy, ivory, and blush for their decor. “Our florist went above and beyond mixing up centerpieces since we were too indecisive to pick just one, and seamlessly tying it all together from the outdoor ceremony space all the way inside. We had bistro lights above the dance floor which helped make it feel cozier and created such an incredible atmosphere.”

Kacie and Liam currently reside in Ellicott City.

Nick and Carmen met while working at Holly Hills Country Club in 2013. “He was a lifeguard and I worked in the snack shop. It sounds so cliche, but our eyes met across a crowded pool deck and we clicked instantly.”

The couple got engaged in December of 2019. “Nick planned a weekend getaway to New York City, which is one of his favorite places and somewhere I had never been before. Nick was so excited to show me around. On our last night of the trip, we went and saw the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center where Nick made the trip one I would never forget by getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him.”

102 guests including a four-person wedding party helped Carmen and Nick celebrate their October nuptials. “We asked my uncle and godfather to marry us because we both wanted someone who knew us to officiate our wedding. It took place on the lawn outside the Holly Hills mansion overlooking the golf course. We always knew that we wanted to get married at Holly Hills because it’s where our love story started. We are just lucky the place we met is also one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Frederick with amazing views and wonderful staff.”

The couple chose a color palette of navy, blush, and gold for their wedding decor. “We wanted our wedding to feel classic and timeless. But our goal was for everyone to feel comfortable. If that meant a formal three-piece suit or jeans and a t-shirt we didn’t care, as long as everyone had a great time.”

Carmen is a legislative aide and Nick is a project manager at a pharmaceutical company. They reside in Frederick.

Brooksley and Gage first met one another through their mothers. “Our moms met first through a mutual friend and hit it off instantly. Gage and I then met at Oakdale High School. Being in the same friend group the rest of high school and our parents hanging out made for us to spend a lot of time together. We went our separate ways for college until Gage ended up transferring to the University of Maryland where I was. We have been together ever since.”

The couple got engaged in February of 2019 while on vacation with their parents at Deep Creek Lake. “We took a snowy hike together, just the two of us, to Swallow Falls when Gage popped the question. I wasn’t expecting it at all. We were then joined shortly after by our families to celebrate with champagne by the waterfall. It was a beautiful and perfect day.”

110 guests, including a twelve-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their nuptials in April. “Our wedding ceremony was very personal. Our officiants were Gage’s twin uncles, who also happen to be his godfathers. It was the perfect blend of serious, emotional, funny, and meaningful. It was full of laughter and lots of love.”

“The look of our wedding was elegant and classy but we were all about having a good time. Because our parents are such close friends, so many of the guests already knew each other and it was just one big party. After being locked up with COVID for so long, everyone just really needed a fun night out with family and friends. Gage and I felt so loved.”

Brooksley is a social studies teacher for FCPS and Gage is in the fire academy for the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department. They reside in Downtown Frederick.

Romantic Italian-themed Bluebird Manor Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Bailey + Brady

Bailey met Brady in 2017 while working as a flight attendant. “Brady was living in Florida playing baseball at the time and he broke his hand during the season. He was sent back to Frederick after surgery to recover. We were both catching up with our friends on our weekend home at a mutual friends home. Brady asked me on a date to Il Porto and we stayed for hours until they closed. Neither of us wanted the night to end. Brady drove me home slowly just to spend more time together. That night we knew.”

After a year of long distance dating Brady took Bailey back to the scene of their first date. “When we got home and pulled in the driveway there was a whole setup with flowers, photos, and a sign asking me to marry him. I turned around and all our family and friends were there. It was perfect.”

100 guests, including a six-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their October wedding. “Bluebird Manor is on my family’s farm, my favorite part was being able to get married at home. We wanted a very intimate ceremony, “Our pastor could not have made our ceremony more special.”

The couple chose a “Italian elegance” theme for their wedding decor. “We wanted people to feel like they stepped back in time at an Italian wedding, but with a twist since it was in a barn. We had a pasta bar for dinner, cannolis for dessert, and a cigar bar. For décor we used greenery, candles, lemons, and olive oil bottles.”

Bailey is the manager of Bluebird Manor, a new wedding venue in Frederick. Brady is a professional baseball player. They currently reside in Frederick.

The couple got engaged in 2018 while at a Vapors concert in New York City.

Seventy guests, including a ten-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their outdoor October wedding. “The ceremony was short and sweet. Holly Hills has great views and backdrops for photos.”

After having to cut their guest list significantly due to Covid-19 concerns, the couple wanted a laid-back vibe to their wedding. For the decor, I just picked my favorite colors. The vibe was laid back. We loved partying and celebrating with friends and family.”

Chris is a small business owner and owns a restaurant in Downtown Frederick and a pizzeria in Williamsport. Caitlin is a former small business owner and Certified Cheese Professional who now works in real estate title. They currently reside in Frederick.
