Lindsay and Matt met during their freshman year at McDaniel College. “Matt lived on the floor above me and had a few classes with my roommate. They often studied together in our suite. During the spring semester, I convinced Matt to join the gospel choir with me. It was so much fun that it didn’t feel like a class, and we stuck with it until we graduated. We have been together for about five years now.”
Matt proposed to Lindsay after for years of dating when she came to visit him at Fort Drum. “We were dressed up for a nice dinner and I took her on a walk through a riverside park where I got down on one knee with my late mother’s ring.”
One hundred seventy-five guests were in attendance for their January wedding, including a seven-person bridal party. “We had a Catholic Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church with a reception at the Mt. Airy Fire Hall. We opted for a military ceremony and exited the church through a saber arch made up of other service members. This was the same church that Matt’s parents were married in, and we had the chance to recreate a few of their photos.”
The couple chose a color palette of navy blue and silver. “We wanted to keep the theme classic and winter-inspired. The ceremony was more formal, but our reception was laid-back and more in line with our personalities. We were under a bit of a time crunch and planned our wedding in 6 months. Having less time helped us focus more on what was important to us rather than dwell on smaller details.”
The two cut their cake with a military saber. “During the reception, we had our photographer take photos of us with each of our grandmothers. Three out of our four grandmothers were able to attend the wedding, which was very special for us. Matt chose to dance with his godmother and two sisters in lieu of a mother-son dance in her memory.”
Matt is a First Lieutenant in the Army, and Lindsay is a substitute teacher. They currently reside in Carthage, New York.
