Mary and Allen were married outside in late October at The Morningside Inn. Their color palette of oranges and browns mimicked the leaves on the trees behind their wedding venue. “The leaves were at their peak. It was perfect.”
100 guests, three bridesmaids and three groomsmen watched Mary and Allen exchange vows at their outdoor ceremony, officiated by Tom Larimore.
The groom is a mechanic and the bride is a sales administrator. Mary and Allen honeymooned in Cape Canaveral and currently live in Taneytown, Maryland.
First Dance: Home to You by John Michael Montgomery
How they met: at work in 2012
The engagement: Allen got up early on November 16, 2014 and made cinnamon pull apart bread for breakfast and hid the engagement ring under the bread. “We were eating breakfast and there it was, the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. And of course I said yes!”
The couple’s advice for planning a wedding: “The first decision you need to make is when and where, it really helps the rest of the details fall into place. I also found it really helpful to use a planning guide, it helped keep us on schedule.”

how they met:
at a party hosted by friends
Heather McAllister and Kris Jordan
how they met: Heather and Kris originally met at Windsor Knolls Middle School, but didn’t quite run with the same crowds! They were able to reconnect 20 years later while out separately at Jo Jo’s in Downtown Frederick! After running into each other that night, they went on their first date to The Tasting Room, and that’s all it took for these 2 foodies! After dating almost 3 years, Kris planned a surprise scavenger hunt taking her through Frederick to all the important places in their relationship and they ended at Strong Mansion for a gorgeous engagement, complete with both families emerging from behind the stone wall! They celebrated the engagement with a Super Bowl party and the planning began!
About the couple: Heather is an elementary school teacher in Frederick County and also the founder of Break Away 5K benefiting Heartly House. She has a son, James, in 1st grade. Her parents are Julie and Michael Bobrow of Damascus and Steve McAllister of Frederick.
Kris is the Marketing Director for The Core Group and also has a son, Cole, in 1st grade. His parents are the late David Jordan and Linda and Norm Clarke of Germantown.
about the wedding: The couple celebrated their outdoor wedding ceremony with a beautiful dusting of snow on 1-7-17. Both the bride’s and groom’s sons, James and Cole respectively, were ring bearers and family friends, Abigail and Ryleigh, were the flower girls. The bride’s sister, Katie Tardif, stood by herside as the Matron of Honor and the groom’s best friend, Brian Carr, stood as the Best Man! Kris’s partner at work, Jim Vandergeest, was ordained as their minister! They celebrated with family and friends late into the night at The Lodge at Little Seneca Creek.
The couple live in their family home in Adamstown. Kris and Heather share loving on their 2 dogs, Bella and Tyson.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald L. Pilson, Sr. were married on Dec. 22, 1956 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, in Ijamsville, Md., by the Rev. Leon Sage. They are still active in the church. They live in Mount Airy in the same house Mr. Pilson built 54 years ago.
The Pilson’s are the parents of three children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Pilson was a builder in the masonry business until his retirement. He started repairing lawn mowers and small engines for people as a hobby. He loved doing this, meeting people and is known as “Don,” and “Pops,” during retirement.
Mrs. Pilson, formerly known as Loretta V. Hawkins from Leesburg, Va. When she first lived in Frederick, she worked at Tyler’s Jewelry store and most of her life as a bookkeeper and homemaker, during these 60 years.
Kimi and Brian were married at Musket Ridge Golf Club on a sunny day in May of 2016.
The couple had outdoor ceremony at Musket Ridge, complete with mountain views. The bridal party of five bridesmaids and five groomsmen walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of Part of Your World, from the Little Mermaid (Kimi’s favorite Disney movie). 112 guests watched them exchange their vows.
The couple surprised their mothers by honoring them each with a rose, thanking them for their sacrifices and unconditional love throughout their lives. Kimi and Brian wrote our own vows, making jokes and laughing the entire way through. Kimi referenced their favorite video games and movies, promising to always share the cookie dough. Brian made reference to their first date, where they walked around the Columbia mall for hours, without ever walking into any stores.
The bride and groom’s mothers joined the couple for a sand ceremony. The officiant poured sand that was taken from the beaches of St. Maarten, where Brian proposed. Then each of the mothers poured a layer to symbolize the couple’s upbringing. Then Kimi & Brian each poured a layer separately, symbolizing individually who they are, and will be in the future. They then poured a layer together, blending the grains of sand to unite their individual experiences together as one.
After the ceremony the couple attended their cocktail hour, followed by their reception. “I absolutely loved the stairs leading down to the ceremony location – it made me feel so elegant with my dress and train. Some of my favorite pictures from the day are on those steps where my dress is flowing over the steps or where we have the amazing views from the mountains.”
When asked if anything funny happened at the reception, Kimi noted that Kristen, the maid of honor, “had an amazing speech that was done almost entirely in Disney quotes.” Brian also noted that while they were playing the lawn game corn hole outside, “Kimi had horrible aim and accidentally hit the photographer with her shot.”
The color palette for the wedding included the couples favorite color, orange, alongside coral pink and gray details. In lieu of wedding favors, Kimi and Brian made a donation to the American Diabetes Association on behalf of their guests.
The groom is a Aerospace Engineer with Northrup Grumman and the bride is a Career Advisor for St. Mary’s College of Maryland. They currently reside in California, Maryland.
First dance: “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith, then breaking out into a surprise dance to “Jump On It” from Sugarhill Gang
How they met: Kimi and Brian met at a winter break party during Kimi’s senior year of high school, Brian’s freshman year of college. The two were in a long distance relationship for almost 4 years while Brian was at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, FL, and Kimi was at Hood College. They have been together for 7 and a half years.
The engagement: On Kimi’s college graduation trip to St. Maarten with her parents and Brian, Brian asked if Kimi wanted to go for a walk down by the water. He signaled to Kimi’s mother that it was time to grab her camera, and walked down to the water’s edge. Then he got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and as he opened the box, sang the treasure chest theme from their favorite video game, the Legend of Zelda, and asked Kimi to marry him. When they walked back up to Kimi’s parents and chairs, there was champagne waiting to celebrate.
The couples’s advice for planning a wedding: “Planning our wedding was the first time that we really had to be a united team, especially with opinions coming from every direction. When planning your wedding, I really suggest sitting down together, just the two of you, and discuss what you both envision for the day. Your friends and family are going to be excited for you and going to want to be involved in planning. Let them be involved as much as you can, but also be a team and stand your ground together on the things that are important to you.”

Allie and Tim are adventurers living in DC. They have a city chic style and resonate with each other’s silliness. Capturing them was a blast and they were up for anything… lie in the snow – sure! Dance in Baker Park – Let’s do it! The golden sunset during an icy March evening was the perfect backdrop for this unique couple.

Kyle and Kayleigh were married on a perfect day in July of 2016. Surrounded by her eight bridesmaids, Kayleigh got ready in the house on the Walker’s Overlook property while her soon to be husband got ready with his eight groomsmen in the “man cave” in the basement- complete with vintage pinball games.
The ceremony was a family affair- both the officiant and ceremony musician were family friends. The maid of honor was Kayleigh’s sister and Kyle’s best man was his brother. Kayleigh’s brother was also a groomsmen. Rounding out the bridal party were many of their high school and college friends. The 16 bridesmaids and groomsmen looked on under the big beautiful tree behind Walker’s Overlook as the two recited their nuptials.
Pastel pinks adorned the bridesmaids dresses and sunflowers decorated the reception tent. The men wore gray and charcoal.
The bride and groom had many wonderful details at their wedding- including the cake and cookies, which were made by tKayleigh’s grandmother. Their mutual love of the television sitcom “Friends” was on display at the reception- literally! A few of the bridesmaids created painted signs that included fun phrases and stories from various episodes. What a fun touch!
Antique window frames were used for the seating chart. They entered into their reception to Jack Johnson’s “Do you Remember” for their first dance.
Kayleigh is a 2nd grade teacher and Kyle is a civil engineer. They now live in Federal Hill in Baltimore City, but frequently return to Frederick. The two honeymooned in Riviera Maya, Mexico after the wedding.
How they met: Kyle and Kayleigh met at Urbana High School in 10th grade Spanish class in 2007. They were friends for a few years and began dating their senior year.
The engagement: “We were in DC for New Year’s Eve 2014 to see one of our favorite bands, Third Eye Blind with some of our friends. The next day, Kyle wanted to go sight seeing. We were walking around the Jefferson Memorial and Kyle started saying all these super nice things, and I was half paying attention at first until I realized he stopped walking. When I finally realized what was happening he was already on one knee! My sister then ran over and we met our families at a restaurant nearby.”
Bride’s advice: “Just enjoy your day and don’t stress over the small stuff!”

It’s gonna be nasty and rainy and snowy this weekend and while we’re sad, we love the idea of a snowy engagement session!
Check out these beautiful images of Julianne and Joey exploring Downtown Frederick and Carroll Creek.
A few words from Spence Photo:
“We had so much fun with Julianne & Joey during their engagement session in Downtown Frederick. We loved this couple’s style and enjoyed spending a chilly day with them throughout Baker Park and along Carroll Creek.”
Are you even ready for this insanely gorgeous Frederick, Maryland Wedding? We were oooh-ing and ahhh-ing when we got this one! On a perfect October day, Emily and Kyle tied the knot and then celebrated with guests at McClintock Distillery.
Enjoy this romantic Real Frederick Wedding….
Tell us the story of how you two met; how long have you been together?
We met through the wonders of modern technology and had our first date in Washington, DC where Emily works. The rest is history! We’ve been together for two and a half years.
Tell us about your proposal!
After going out to dinner, Kyle took Emily on a night hike to a spot on his property that overlooks Frederick. He knew that with Emily’s fear of the dark, she would be too worried about bears and coyotes to notice the ring he had stashed under a rock or the camera he’d setup to capture the moment.
What was your favorite element of your wedding planning?
For Emily, planning the details of the ceremony and reception decorations – many long but fun hours spent on Pinterest!

Really, I love flowers! I love flowers so much it was my dream growing up on a Frederick County dairy farm to one day own a flower shop in my hometown. I live 3 doors from Abloom, located in a 40’s bungalow with flowers growing all around it, and have called it mine since 2001. Abloom opened in 1992, in Walkersville on the corner of Main and Frederick Streets in an old country store.
