Terrance and Mary met at a bar in Winchester, Virginia while discussing the differences between Guinness Draft and Guinness from a can. “It wasn’t exactly a crazy night; in fact, it was a cold Tuesday night. Terrance was new to the area and just checking it out, and I was just stopping in after teaching a night course next door. We went on our first date that same week and have been side by side since.”
Terrance proposed to Mary on the balcony of a hotel room in Annapolis during a weekend getaway. “We both knew for a while that it was only a matter of time, but I will still surprised when it happened.”
Fifty guests were in attendance for their October wedding nuptials, including a two-person wedding party. “We were married at St. Peter’s historic church in Harpers Ferry. All of our guests seemed to really enjoy seeing the area, and it felt very intimate. During the ceremony, our priest commented that he felt like he was in a Ken Burns documentary. We agreed.”
The couple chose a vintage minimalist look for their wedding decor. “We both love the fall months so we chose fall colors and used wildflowers to anchor our theme from the ceremony to the reception. I think our style and the feel we were going for played perfectly with the Tenth Ward Venue.”
“We wanted our wedding to feel intimate but very relaxed. We both come from large families but decided to keep our wedding much smaller than what we are used to attending. We wanted to have a celebration with our closest friends and immediate family that allowed us to spend extended time with each guest throughout the night. Each person we invited to be a part of our wedding day is incredibly important to us and we wanted them to feel that. We served our dinner family-style, which gave our dinner a more personal feel.”
As a gift to their guests, the couple hired a caricature artist to create portraits of guests. “It ended up being an absolute hit as everybody seemed to love it.”
Mary is a third-grade teacher and Terrance is a power plant electrician. The currently live in Frederick.
