Holiday Wedding at Holly Hills :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Marissa + Michael

Michael and Marissa met in 2019 through a dating app. “We went on our first date to a Mediterranean restaurant in Frederick and got Italian ice afterward and we have been together ever since.”

The couple got engaged in July of 2021. “We were planning our first vacation together on our own and Michael wanted to take me to his grandparent’s condo in Florida. The first day we got to the condo we went straight to the beach since I couldn’t wait to go in the water. When I put my foot in the water I didn’t see Michael near me until I looked over and saw him get down on one knee. Michael almost fell in the water he was so nervous.”

Seventy-five guests, including an eight-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their December nuptials at Holly Hills. “We had elements of Christian and Jewish culture mixed into our ceremony. We took vows before God and not just each other because we wanted to show everyone we want a covenant marriage.”

The couple went for a formal look for their winter wedding decor. “Our color palette was burgundy, black, and gold. Our theme was Christmas since our venue was decorated for Christmas already. It felt very magical with all the lights, glitter, and sparklers.”

Marissa is a clinical psychology doctoral student at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and Michael is a systems engineer. They currently reside in Germantown, Maryland.

October Ceresville Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Ryan + Maren

Ryan and Maren met in the fall of 2017 through a mutual friend. “We made plans to grab dinner together, and we decided our roommates could tag along as well. The carpool plans involved a two-door Camaro, so when Ryan had to get out of the car to move the seat up for me to get into the back, he says it was love at first sight. We quickly became and remained, close friends; he never anticipated I’d be interested! After a couple of subtle hints from the roommates, we finally got together, and the rest is history.”

The couple got engaged in November of 2020 when Ryan planned a surprise lunch date in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. “Ryan suggested taking some pictures on the pier, a request very unlike him. After pictures, he slipped up and mentioned that he knew the surprise date would be worth it. Not registering what was going on, he finally dropped to one knee. Both of our families showed up to join us on the pier for a champagne toast.”

120 guests, including a twelve-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their October wedding at Ceresville Mansion, with a traditional Catholic ceremony at Saint Katharine Drexel Church. “When we got engaged, there was no doubt that we wanted to get married in Maryland, even though neither of us is from here. I was born and raised in Delaware, and Ryan in New Jersey. Maryland is where we met and where we were currently living, so we wanted our wedding to be symbolic to us and our relationship, and we wanted our guests to experience that.”

“One of our favorite parts of the day was later in the night when our photographer quickly pulled us outside for a few photos. It was almost like the day was finally still, with us alone outside while our guests were inside enjoying themselves. Thinking back to our day, it seems small but it is a very vivid memory.”

Ryan is an Associate Product Manager and Maren is a Next-Generation Sequencing Laboratory Specialist. They currently reside in Frederick.

Josh and Kristen met on a dating app in 2018. “We agreed to meet for lunch at Chipotle, and we had an instant connection. We spent the rest of the afternoon together, and we have been inseparable ever since.”

Josh proposed in 2020, the day they moved into their first home together. “After we finished moving in the last of our furniture, I was completely surprised to turn around and find him on one knee in the kitchen. It was the perfect start to our life together.”

120 guests, including an eleven-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their October wedding at Ceresville Mansion. “My mom walked me down the aisle, and that was very special to me. We stood under the pergola, in front of the reflecting pool, with our bridesmaids and groomsmen beside us. My sister made me a beautiful locket for my bouquet. Our dad passed away when we were young, and she made a locket with his picture, and his handwriting so that he could be a part of the day.”

The couple chose rust orange and burgundy with gold accents for their decor. “We had floral centerpieces in simple glass cylinder vases, and gold mercury votives on the tables. We wanted our decor to feel simple, but elegant.”

“Immediately after the ceremony, we took pictures with our wedding party. We were so excited to be married and celebrate with our friends- and instead of posing us, our photographer captured us exactly as we were with drinks in hand, laughing, and having the best time. We loved our reception too- it was one big party.”

Kristen is an occupational therapist and Josh is a contracting specialist. They currently reside in Frederick.

Whimsical Christmas Antrim Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Hannah + Zach

Hannah and Zach met in high school. “Our mutual friends decided to trick us into dating by telling Zach that I had feelings for him, and telling me that Zach had feelings for me— we fell for it, hard, and never looked back. We dated for seven years before we got engaged.”

Zach proposed in October of 2018. “While I had an idea he might be proposing that weekend, I had no idea it would be at dinner. He snuck back into the kitchen before dessert and gave the ring to the pastry chef, who made a sugar pedestal for the ring to sit on top of our dessert. The rest of the night was a blur, but he had arranged several other surprises that evening as well.”

Fifty guests, including a four-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their December nuptials in Taneytown. “Our ceremony was religious but brief. We wrote our own vows, which felt so intimate and special.”

The couple chose a “whimsical Christmas” theme for their wedding decor. “Zach and I have always loved Christmas and have referred to it as ‘our time of year’ so it seemed like the most romantic time to get married. We wanted to have a vintage Christmas feel, so we incorporated emerald green, mixed metallics, and splashes of pastels. The day was so intimate with our closest friends and family in attendance, and we felt it was a perfect representation of who we are as a couple, with a formal yet comfortable vibe.”

Hannah made sure to include some sentimental details into their day. “My bouquet was very special to me, as I crafted it myself from Christmas ornaments and ribbon. Zach and I plan to use it annually to decorate our table at Christmas time. I also had a bouquet charm with a photo of my late paternal grandparents, and a handkerchief from my late great grandfather in my pocket, so it was like they were walking down the aisle with me.”

Hannah is an executive assistant for a consulting firm, and Zach works in hospitality. The couple currently resides in San Jose, California.

Erin and Patrick met at the gym about 5 years ago. “Patrick noticed me leaving spin class and asked the instructor about me.”

Patrick proposed in early summer in Gettysburg. “We were walking the Civil War trails. It was more crowded than he expected so he waited till we got to the top of Little Round Top to propose.”

60 guests, including a two-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their October wedding day at Mountain Memories at ThorpeWood. “We chose the pine tree cathedral for our ceremony. We love the outdoors and that spot was perfect. A bagpiper played for the ceremony and it was an eerily beautiful sound and completely set the mood. The aisle was decorated with huge ferns that I had been growing since the summer. The alter was made of raw wood and covered with tons of greenery.”

Focused on incorporating the beauty of their venue, the couple went for a woodland and Celtic vibe for their wedding decor. “Our colors were dark greens and burgundy. We used a lot of greenery like ferns and eucalyptus. Our 2-year old son Francis stole the show in his toddler kilt. The DJ played Irish pub-style music during cocktail hour. Our menu included Guinness beef stew and an Irish themed cheese tray.”

Erin is a nurse and Patrick is a truce designer. They reside in Westminster, Maryland.

Outdoor October Holly Hills Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Alyssa + Charles

Alyssa and Charles met in Nashville while pursuing their music careers. Charles is a guitar player and Alyssa is a singer. “We now play music together for a living. We have been together for three and a half years and have a beautiful daughter. We hit it off instantly and fell in love quickly.”

Charles proposed when his family was in town from Texas. “My family is in Maryland and his family is in Texas so it’s rare when we get everyone together. We were taking pictures at our daughter’s baptism and he popped the question.”

100 guests were in attendance for Charles and Alyssa’s outdoor October nuptials, including six bridesmaids and five groomsmen. “We knew we wanted a scenic wedding. Our venue was so beautiful and the trees with the leaves changing was everything we could have wanted. Our ceremony was very simple and sweet.”

When asked what her favorite part of her wedding day was, Alyssa mentioned dancing st the reception. “My family loves to dance so that was the most fun. My dad definitely had the spotlight on the dance floor. I also loved the bouquet toss because my best friend since preschool caught it.”

Alyssa and Charles are both musicians and currently reside in Reisterstown.

Thomas and Danielle met at a concert when Thomas was stationed in DC as a US Marine. “He proposed to me in San Diego on the beach while I was visiting him when he was transferred duty stations.”

120 guests were in attendance for their August nuptials at Dunely’s Overloook in Walkersville, including four bridesmaids and four groomsmen. “Our ceremony took place outside in a field. It was thundering during the sermon from our pastor and we made it down the aisle as husband and wife just before an afternoon thunderstorm.”

The couple chose a color palette of red and gold for their decor. “Dulaney’s Overlook was exactly what I had pictured for my wedding when I first got engaged. I love everything about Frederick, the beautiful land and the nightlife in the downtown area. It was perfect for the different mix of guests that were coming.”

Danielle is a registered nurse and Thomas is in the US Marine Corps. They currently reside in Twentynine Palms, CA.

Jessica and Nathan met in high school but didn’t start dating until five years later. “We kept in touch all through college and began dating in 2014.”

The proposal revolved around their mutual love for hiking. “We went to Piney Run Park in Eldersburg and stopped at a bench looking out at the water. Nathan surprised me by pulling out a ring and asking me to marry him.”

126 guests were in attendance for their late October wedding, including four bridesmaids and four groomsmen. “Our ceremony was held outside on the hill at the golden hour of sunset. The trees had just started changing colors and gave us a nice backdrop.”

The couple chose a color palette of tine and gold to complement the fall colors. “Our favorite parts of the wedding day were celebrating and dancing with all of our friends and family. We had a unique guestbook- everyone signed small birch-rounds to be placed in a shadowbox frame that we’ve hung up in our living room.”

Jessica is a background analyst at TEKsystems and Nathan is an accountant at Aronson LLC. They currently reside in Burtonsville, Maryland.

Navy Blue and Lilac April Stone Manor Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Jennifer + Patrick

Patrick and Jennifer planned a trip to Savannah, Georgia for their 3rd anniversary. “We explored the city, walked around and rode bikes. Later in the evening, Patrick surprised me with a horse-drawn carriage ride around town. The carriage stopped at one of the many squares in the city, and we got out for a closer look and that is when Patrick proposed. We returned to our carriage and went for a celebratory dinner,” shared Jennifer.

125 guests were in attendance for their wedding ceremony, including six bridesmaids, six groomsmen, and two ushers at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church. “Seeing each other at the church for the first time was a great moment.”

The couple chose a color palette of navy blue and lilac for their decor for their reception, held at Stone Manor Country Club. The bride incorporated her something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue into her bouquet, including pins from her grandfather’s Army uniform, her grandmother’s baby ring, a blue rosary made by her mother, and a pin from the groom’s grandmother.

“We tried to make our day classic and fun for our guests. We had a photo booth that lots of people used and we danced all night! We also learned we have some brave friends willing to try the Dirty Dancing lift when ‘I’ve Had the Time of My Life’ was played. We surprised our guests with a food truck serving tater tots for a late night snack.”

Patrick is a scientist working in pharmaceutical development. Jennifer is a Clinical Project Manager and works on clinical trials for emerging diseases. They currently reside in Dickerson, Maryland.

Classic Ceresville Blue and Green Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Frances and Travis

After meeting on Match.com, Frances and Travis went to the Smithsonian National Zoo in DC for their first date. “It was very cold that night and I had giant earmuffs on, so I can honestly say that I only heard about half of what he said,” shared Frances.

The couple had 200 guests in attendance at their Ceresville Mansion wedding. “We wanted to get married outside, but also wanted somewhere with a good indoor option,” Frances shared. Thankfully they were able to say their vows outdoors as planned. Four groomsmen and two bridesmaids made up the couple’s bridal party.

Frances and Travis chose a color palette of blue and green for their reception. To round out the evening, the couple had a unique getaway. “My dream car, which I only recently bought a few years ago, made a star performance. She’s a 1955 Buick Roadmaster, red and white, and I got her running in time for the wedding. I also got to drive us away, and had the old-fashioned cans and balloons tied to the bumper.”

Travis is a paralegal and Frances is a technical writer. They currently live in Washington, DC.
