Yellow & Maroon Fall Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Brandy + Kyle

Brandy and Kyle met in 2018 when they both worked at the fast food restaurant Chick-fil-a in Greencastle, Pennsylvania. “Kyle left his phone on the table while he went to do something, and his twin gave the password to his phone out, and his screen saver got changed to a picture of me. After that, Kyle didn’t change the screen saver for a few weeks, and everyone noticed that he wasn’t changing it and started to ask if there was a reason behind that. He would wait for me after his shifts so we could hang out. We sat in his car for hours leading up to the day that he asked me out.”

After a year of dating, Kyle proposed as the two were finishing a picnic. “Kyle got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We were originally going to get married in November of 2021, but we decided it was best for us to have a longer engagement so we could have the perfect day. After going to three separate locations for our wedding, we found the Cortland Mansion, and we loved it right away.”

Seventy-five guests, including a six-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their October nuptials in Hagerstown. “Our wedding ceremony was on a really warm day after a rainy week. Kyle and I read our vows to each other without seeing one another. Our first look was as I was walking down the aisle. My favorite part of our wedding day was watching my little cousins walk down to get the candy that my sister had in her hands. My flower girl and ring bearer love candy, so they were so excited to get a prize at the end.”

The couple chose a rustic feel for their wedding decor, using a color palette of sunflower yellow and maroon to set the tone. “I lost my grandmother in August; I had a dedication song to her during the reception as well as had her picture on my bouquet. She was a very important part of our life.”

Kyle is a trailer builder at CAM Superline, and Brandy is a preschool teacher in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, where the couple resides.

Kim and Collin met in 2017 on a dating app. “He was actually a few hours late picking me up. I was about to lose interest and tell him to kick rocks until he finally came and picked me up. We went to a club in downtown Baltimore. We stayed for a few hours, then decided to leave and walk the harbor; we sat at a bench a few feet away from the water and ended up talking all night. We instantly fell in love.”

Collin proposed on Christmas day in 2020. “I had just woken up and was on my way to the bathroom. He had the ring out in the kitchen, and I ended up walking in, and he hurried up, got on one knee, and tried to ask for my hand.”

112 guests, including a 31-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their September nuptials. “I had my stepfather walk me halfway down the aisle, then had my father walk us the rest of the way. Collin’s stepfather was our pastor.”

The couple chose a formal vintage theme for their wedding at Cortland Mansion and used sage green, blush, and gold for their color palette. Kimberly is an accounts payable supervisor, and Collin is a lube technician. They currently reside in Millersville, Maryland.

High school sweethearts Jenna and Trey met during their freshman year in 2016. “I had seen him before at a football game, but he sent me a message on Snapchat, and we started talking. From that moment on, we were inseparable.”

The couple got engaged in April 2020. “It was the height of the pandemic, and we went on a walk just to get away from the house for a while, and that’s when he proposed. Nothing was open, and we couldn’t go anywhere, so he improvised. It was a light in the midst of some dark days for us.”

80 guests, including a 10-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their outdoor October nuptials at Cortland Mansion. “. It was a beautiful but cool and windy day. All of our closest friends and loved ones were in attendance, and it’s the most beautiful day that we’ve had together and will never forget.”

“We were going for a fall, rustic theme, and it turned out beautifully. Our wedding colors were moss green and spice. We used flowers with lots of eucalyptus greenery, pumpkins, and mums. Our tables were decorated with lanterns, fall leaves, and candles. Our favorite part was celebrating with all of our family and friends and seeing the ones from out of town that we don’t get to visit with as much. It was so nice to finally relax and enjoy our day. We had a sparkler send off toward the end of the night.”

Jenna is a Certified Dental Assistant, and Trey will graduate in May 2023 with a degree in business and finance. He is currently employed by CNB Bank. The couple lives in Falling Waters, West Virginia.

Tiffany and Andy met for coffee in 2019 after a brief period of messaging through a dating app. “We spoke on the phone a few times so I could convince her I wasn’t a serial killer. We were both raising two kids on our own and had a lot in common. We hatched a plan to have our kids meet for sledding so we could play it off as a chance encounter if things didn’t work out, but I knew they would.”

Andy bought an engagement ring after the couple purchased a house together in June 2020. “I used to get it out of my sock drawer and look at it when she was at work. I couldn’t wait to surprise her. I talked to her parents and her kids to ensure everyone wanted this. I planned a trip to the beach for my birthday with the plan of asking her as waves crashed on the shore. Although the day was dreary, the light in our hearts showed through and kept us warm on a crisp September morning. I couldn’t believe how lucky I was.”

100 guests, including a nine-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their September 2021 nuptials at Cortland Mansion. “I lost my first wife to cancer. It was amazing that I could ask the same minister to officiate at this wedding. I wrote most of the ceremony and the vows, which were really touching and personal. Tiffany also picked some amazing music. Our recessional was Such Great Heights by The Postal Service. It was perfect.”

“Our colors were sea foam green and coral pink. We picked them because we love the water and Tiffany’s daughter liked blue and mine liked pink. Her parents arranged to have an ice cream truck from Antietam Dairy there. I think the kids now believe that is a normal thing for weddings which is perfect.”

Tiffany is a registered nurse at Frederick Health Hospital, and Andy is a data analyst at UMD Physicians Group. They currently live in Walkersville.

March Cortland Mansion Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Sophia + Chris

Sophia and Chris began dating in November of 2013. “We’ve known each other forever. We were friends for a long time before we began working together at Bassett’s Restaurant in Poolesville.”

The couple got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2020. “We had plans to spend the weekend at Rocky Gap and Chris pulled over off Route 68 at Sideling Hill Overlook in Hancock Maryland to pop the question. I had no idea this was about to happen because we always swore he would never propose on a holiday. He asked me to get out to take a picture with the beautiful background. That’s when he got down on one knee.”

Ninety-five guests, including a nine-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their March wedding at Cortland Mansion. “The weather was ideal for late March. We had an outdoor ceremony on the patio with a beautiful archway. Chris’ son Tyler, who was the best man, played and sang ‘Something In The Way She Moves’ by James Taylor as the bridal party walked down the aisle. I wore my grandmother’s wedding rings on my right hand during the ceremony. I felt like she was with us that day.”

The couple chose decor for the wedding using forest green as the main color. “For flowers, we had white and pale pink roses mixed with lots of greenery and eucalyptus vines. I wasn’t too particular about makeup and hairstyles for the bridal party. As long as everyone was comfortable, we were happy. I wore nice shoes for the ceremony but as soon as the reception started I quickly put on my glitter Vans.”

“We loved every second of that day. Chris and his groomsmen skateboarded in the parking lot while us girls were getting ready in the bridal suite. The speeches from my dad and Chris’ son were perfect. Lots of laughs during the reception. The day couldn’t have gone any better.”

Sophia is a hairstylist in Poolesville and Chris is a construction superintendent in Washington, DC. They currently reside in Beallsville, Maryland.

Melissa and Spencer met in 2014 when Spencer was a customer at a pet store where Melissa worked. “He ended up working there, too. We did a phenomenal job of separating work and personal life, something we probably couldn’t do now. I was in and out of that location because I was in college an hour away. Spencer drove up on his days off to spend time with me; he knew and respected the fact that my education was important to me.”

The couple began dating in 2016, and knew from the beginning marriage was in their future. “We got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2019. I was working at the pet store and Spencer proposed to me in the cat section- I was so surprised I almost fell over. I know some might not think that is romantic, but it was perfect for us.”

85 guests, including a twelve-person wedding party, helped the two celebrate their outdoor April nuptials at Cortland Mansion. “My favorite part of our wedding day was seeing Spencer’s face as I walked down the aisle. I was so emotional, I had dreamed of this moment my whole life. We had a love lock ceremony and every year on our anniversary, we will buy a new lock to symbolize our commitment to each other.”

Melissa chose wood flowers instead of live flowers for her decor. “I loved the idea that they would never die. I did not realize the time commitment involved in hand dyeing 800 flowers. One of my bridesmaids was there for me, helping and encouraging me to push on throughout the process. They turned out exactly how I wanted them, I couldn’t have been happier. What started out being my most dreaded task ended up being my favorite memory.”

Melissa is the director of operations at a dog training facility and Spencer is a general manager at a dog boarding and daycare center. They currently reside in Germantown, Maryland.

Outdoor Spring Cortland Mansion Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Kaitlyn and Jonathan

John and Kaitlyn met in 2013 at Chambersburg High School, where Jonathan was a sophomore and Kaitlyn was a freshman. “We met each other when we sat together in study hall. We got to know each other and eventually started to date for a couple of months. We broke up but kept in touch throughout high school. In 2016, I reached out to Jonathan, and shortly after we began dating again.”

The couple got engaged in August of 2020. “We decided as a couple that we wanted to get married after I finished college in May of 2020. Very quickly after we knew that it was time to start talking about marriage. Jonathan proposed in front of friends and family at his house that would soon become our home.”

120 guests, including a twelve-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their outdoor ceremony in April of 2021. “Our wedding ceremony was held outdoor at Cortland Mansion. We stood in front of a white pergola that was decorated with simple greens and pops of pink and white roses. The guests sat on the large stone patio. There were lights strung above the guest seats and greenery hanging from the aisle seats.”

Green, white, and pale pink were used as the decor colors. “We were going for a classy and elegant style. We wanted the greenery to be the main focus of the decorations with roses as accents. Our centerpieces were three different-sized cylinder vases with floating candles with greenery to surround them.”

The couple made their own grilling seasoning for guest wedding favors and “pawty favors” for the dogs that couldn’t attend.

Kaitlyn is a second-grade teacher in Washington County. Jonathan is a route salesman for Martins Famous Pastry Shoppe. They currently reside in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Catharine and David met in 2004 when they were seven and eight years old. “We lived two doors down from each other and practically grew up together. After several years, my family moved away and we lost touch. Then in the spring of 2017, David and I reconnected on Facebook and soon after made plans to meet up in person. We had no intention of getting romantically involved but fate had a different story to write. We began dating in January 2018.”

The couple got engaged in 2020 at a location special to Catharine. “Growing up I moved around too many times to count. My grandparent’s house was a place that always remained constant and always felt truly like home. David surprised me by taking me there and proposed to me on the front porch. It was very intimate and a truly special moment.”

Forty guests, including a ten-person wedding party, were in attendance for their October 2021 wedding at Cortland Mansion. “We had a traditional wedding ceremony. My grandfather walked me down the aisle. We both wrote our own individual vows. It was short, sweet, and full of love.”

David and Catharine chose pale pink and navy blue decor for their wedding. “David really liked navy blue as color and pale pink just went perfect. We definitely stuck to a formal setting. I loved when the dance floor opened up. The DJ played songs that everyone danced to, no matter what age. It was great seeing everyone having such a great time. We decided to have a micro wedding to make everyone feel safer. I think more people streamed the wedding on Zoom than those that were actually in attendance.”

David is a Portfolio Analyst and Catharine is a Purchasing Coordinator for a construction company in Frederick. They currently reside in Hagerstown.

Fall Cortland Mansion Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Emily + Josh

Emily and Josh met in 2011 while working together at Target. “We were just acquaintances then we started talking more and were dating by early 2012.”

The couple got engaged in 2019, after discussing getting married for several years. “We knew we wanted to get married after we moved in together in 2016. For the proposal, we were in Utah visiting my aunt and uncle and had planned a trip to Sundance Mountain Resort to go zip lining. At the end of the tour, we took the ski lift to the top of the mountain to take in the views. Josh wanted to take a picture overlooking the mountains, but before I had a chance to pose, he was getting down on one knee.”

130 guests, including a 16-person wedding party, helped celebrate the October 2021 nuptials at Cortland Mansion. “Our wedding ceremony was originally set to be outdoors on the patio, but the rain forced us to move it inside. Our venue was so accommodating that we didn’t even miss being outside once we saw how beautiful the venue was with all of the candles and greenery. We had one of our closest friends officiate our ceremony, and he had us laughing and crying the whole time. We had so many of our family and friends present but the ceremony felt incredibly intimate.”

The couple didn’t choose a theme for their wedding but leaned into the fall season and used fall colors as accents for their decor. “We loved that we were able to use our creativity and plan a wedding that was completely ours. All of the decorations, music, food, and activities were things that we chose. We ended our reception with a giant circle on the dance floor with us in the middle, and we danced to Country Roads by John Denver. That memory of all of our loved ones surrounding us and everyone singing that song together will always be one of my favorites.”

Emily is a Communication Specialist and Josh is a Supply Chain Analyst. They reside in Ijamsville.

Lewis and Melinda met online in August of 2015. “We went to Olive Garden for our first date. We have been together for almost seven years.”

Melinda and Lewis got engaged on Christmas day in 2020. “Lewis was picking up his son for the summer and bought the ring in North Carolina without anyone knowing. When he was on the way back to the house, he asked his son if he could ask me to marry him. Lewis then called my two sisters, mother, and our two daughters and asked if he could marry me. On Christmas morning I went downstairs where the family was opening presents, and turned around to see Lewis on one knee.”

32 guests were in attendance for their November wedding, including a twelve-person wedding party. “We both wrote our own wedding vows and lit a unity candle to combine our two hearts as one, even though the wind made it a little tricky. We had to reschedule our wedding date from October to November because we both got Covid.”

The couple chose a 1920’s Great Gatsby theme for their Cortland Mansion wedding. “The decor and space were perfect for our wedding theme.”

Melinda is a utility worker at PepsiCo and Lewis is a General Electrician for Dillion Lighting Protection. They reside in Williamsport.

Andrew and Lauren met at a cookout. “It was truly love at first sight for me. We both were in the hospitality industry and wanted to have our own business one day. After three months of talking, we decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend.”

A year into dating, Andrew and Lauren got engaged. “He proposed on a random Tuesday night in our living room. It was honestly the most romantic thing ever. It was just the two of us and so special. Rose petals everywhere and our song playing in the background.”

A sixteen-person wedding party helped Andrew and Lauren celebrate their October nuptials. “Our ceremony was short and sweet and super laid back just like both Andrew and I. We wrote our own vows, prayed together and our officiant was a family friend so she was able to really personalize it for us.”

The couple chose a color palette of red and gray for their wedding decor. “We were engaged for three years so I had a lot of time to plan every detail. Andrews’s family is Arabic so we had a few traditions that we incorporated into our wedding. We were able to hire a DJ and have him play some Arabic music and then surprised our guests with a belly dancer.”

Andrew is a chef and Lauren is an infant teacher. They reside in Fairfield, Pennsylvania.

Scott and April met through a mutual friend in 2014. “We had no intention of dating anyone at that point in our lives. It was just some friends getting together for dinner and drinks. There was a band and we started singing the songs together and that started our connection.”

Scott had planned to propose while on the stage at an open mic night. “He was so nervous. He couldn’t decide on the right time to do it. On our way home that night, we stopped at the Kissing Tower that overlooks the battlefield in Gettysburg and that is where he went down on one knee.”

110 guests, including a 12 person wedding party helped the couple celebrate their nuptials in Hagerstown. “To show our commitment to each other, we did a hand molding. We wanted something different that we could have to remember this special day and our hands together were perfect.”

The couple chose a masquerade ball theme for their wedding, with burgundy, silver and rose gold as the color palette. “After the wedding, we all went bowling. I went in my wedding dress. It was an unplanned moment but unforgettable.”

Scott is a pharmacist and April is a registered nurse. They currently reside in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania.

Scott and Nicole met online. “We starting exchanging messages on a Sunday and we met up in person the next day. We’ve been together ever since.”

Scott proposed on the couple’s one year anniversary. “He proposed at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown. The Bavarian Inn is very special to me because my parents and my grandparents have both celebrated anniversaries there.”

93 guests were in attendance for their May nuptials including five bridesmaids, a junior bridesmaid, and five groomsmen. “My dad walked me down the aisle to ‘A Time for Us’ which was my grandparent’s first dance song at their wedding. One of my grandmothers passed away before the wedding, so that moment was so heartfelt knowing she was a part of our wedding day.”

The couple chose a “romantic and fun feel” for their reception. “My engagement ring is rose gold, so that was the inspiration for our color palette. I was thrilled the way everything came together.”
