Will and Heather met in 2019 during their high school’s production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. “I was a junior, and Will was a senior. We bonded over our love of theatre, but Will realized he felt something more and started asking me to go on walks around Centennial Park, his version of a date. It was shortly after that he worked up the courage to ask me to be his girlfriend, and the rest is history.”
The couple got engaged in November of 2020. “knew I wanted to propose to Heather at Centennial Park since it is where I fell in love with her. The ring has a diamond in the center with 3 smaller diamonds flanking each side. Two of those diamonds came from earrings that Heather’s late grandfather had given her when she was a baby. The other four came from a ring that my great-grandmother had crafted from a larger diamond. The actual spot of the proposal was an in-the-moment decision. I just couldn’t pass up a gorgeous view. I took some pictures with Heather and our dog, and they handed our dog off to Heather’s mom and then got down on one knee.”
120 guests, including a seven-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their May wedding at Catoctin Hall at Musket Ridge. “Our ceremony was beautiful and also very, very hot. Our chuppah had my late grandfather’s talis, which was incredibly meaningful. As part of the Jewish traditions, we did seven circles, a candle lighting, shared wine, and had a blessing recited over us. We each shared our own vows. I told Will about the promises I had for our future, including that I would always ride the Star Wars rides at Disney with him as long as he rode the Tower of Terror.”
“We incorporated elements of Scotland, Wales, and England into our wedding. We had always wanted to get married in Scotland, but it was not feasible, so we wanted to bring that to Frederick. Our main colors were lavender and rose gold. Our flowers included thistle and heather from Scotland, myrtle leaves from Wales, and other flowers that would be found in an English garden. Our centerpieces were flowers in teapots. Our favors were British candies and snacks. I had a six pence in my shoe. The goal was to feel like a formal wedding set in an English garden.”
Heather is a journalist, and Will is a software engineer. They live in Columbia, Maryland.
