Sometimes “swiping right” leads to a marriage. “Shon and still look at each other and laugh when people ask us how we met. We are actually a Tinder success story!”
While the couple met through Tinder, an online dating app, they connected quickly outside of the online world on their first date, which last eight hours. They met for drinks at an outdoor bar in Leesburg, Virginia on one of the hottest days in 2015. “After hours of conversation and baking in the sun, we decided to go to a nearby restaurant for dinner to eat, get into some air conditioning, and continue our conversation.”
The couple had four bridesmaids, five groomsmen, a ring bearer and a flower girl in their wedding party. 96 guests were in attendance for their outdoor ceremony. The couple wrote their own vows. “After several drafts, we both came up with ones that were true to us, reflected our personalities, and hopefully provided the guests with some laughs.”
To honor Shon’s military service, the couple opted for a red, white and blue color scheme. The patriotic colors were reflected throughout the reception decor and the bridesmaids dresses. Ashley and Shon made a donation to the Intrepid Fallen Heros Fund, a non-profit organization that provides support to United States military personnel and their families, in honor of their guests.
The couple took dance lessons before their wedding to surprise their guests with a choreographed first dance. “We decided not to go the route of the traditional slow song and wanted to spice things up. Not only was it fun to do, but about halfway through the reception the guests asked that we do it again because they enjoyed it so much.”
Ashley is an Operations Manager at TEOCO Corporation. Shon is a Bio-Medical Engineer for the United States Army at Fort Detrick. They currently reside in Frederick, Maryland.
