Nolan and Emily met at South River High school in Edgewater, Maryland at a friend’s party their Junior year. “We started to hang out and get to know each other as friends and began dating later in the school year. We have been together ever since, nine years before we got married.”
Nolan proposed to Emily during a family vacation to Aruba. “We were taking a private sunset sailing cruise when he asked me to take a picture at the bow of the boat. Instead of a picture, his sister took a video of the whole proposal. I had made him a couples “coupon book” back in high school, eight years ago, and one of the coupons read, ‘Present this when you propose for a guaranteed YES.’ There was an expiration date of 2014 and he proposed January 2016. I was sure to point out that the coupon expired but still said yes.”
The couple had 120 guests in attendance for their outdoor ceremony at Mountain Memories at ThorpeWood, including five bridesmaids and five groomsmen. Emily shared that a favorite moment was the prayer shared by both families who laid hands on bride and groom to wish them well in their new life together as they stood under their custom-made arbor.
Nolan and Emily chose a “rustic fall romance” theme for their wedding. Colors included in their reception included burgundy, bold and hints of green and burnt orange. Guests received a wedding favor of a cookbook, created by the bride, of favorite personal and family recipes. The cookbook favor was paired with a homemade hot sauce. The couple also had a “make your own candy apple bar,” with apple slices on sticks, caramel, chocolate and plenty of toppings.
Emily is a High School Art Teacher and Nolan works in Finance at Wells Fargo. The couple resides in Edgewater, Maryland
