Maia + Leo :: Real Frederick Wedding

On Leo and Maia’s second anniversary, the couple went out for dinner and a walk on Carroll Creek. As they walked to the end of the creek, Leo stopped and turned to Maia, telling her how much he loved her and surprised her with an engagement ring. A year later, the couple said I do at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick.

Maia’s God-Father walked her down the aisle. Once Leo took her hand, “it felt like it was just the two of us in that big church,” Maia shared.

The couple had a large bridal party- 10 bridesmaids, nine groomsmen, three flower girls and a ring bearer. 175 guests were in attendance.

Leo and Maia went all out with their wedding theme of Gotham, the fictional city best known as the home of Batman. “Figuring out how to elegantly incorporate Batman and Gotham into our whole day and other events of the wedding was really fun,” Maia noted.

Little details showcasing the theme could be spotted at the reception, like Batman and Catwoman masks on the placards. The guests signed a Batman Encyclopedia as their sign-in book. The couple also wore Batman and Catwoman masks as they were announced at their reception. “We know how to throw a great party.”

The couple chose the Walkersville Fire Hall for their reception venue, “because it was pretty much a blank canvas with amazing chandeliers.”

Maia and Leo said having their family and closest friends at their wedding celebration was the most important and touching part of the day. “It meant the world to us.”

Leo is a Frederick County Highway Foreman and Maia is an Interior Designer with Ethan Allen. They currently live in Frederick.
