Samantha and Caleb’s families have been close friends for many years. “My Aunts and Uncles have been best friends with Caleb’s parents for years, about 33 years to be exact.” With such a long history, it’s a surprise that the two didn’t meet until 2015 at a family get together.
A mishap during a flip cup drinking game ended with a romantic gesture. “Caleb kissed the top of my hand and said, ‘this is how a princess should be treated.’ Before the night ended I friended him on Facebook and the rest is history.”
The engagement happened while tailgating in Pittsburgh with their families for the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the New York Jets. Samantha looked up and saw that Caleb was holding a sign that said, “Just a NY Jets fan trying to ‘Steeler’ heart. CZ + SK.”
“To be honest, I’m not 100% sure what all he said, it was loud, I was in shock – all I knew was this guy on one knee in front of me is the guy I want to be with forever, of course, I said yes.”
The couple had 200 guests in attendance for their open field wedding ceremony at Dulany’s Overlook, including six bridesmaids and six groomsmen.
The couple chose a color palette of rose gold, taupe, and mauve for their wedding. When asked what her favorite part of the wedding day was, Samantha shared that “watching our guests interact with our amazing DJ” was a highlight.
“After the speeches from the Matron of Honor & Best Man, My Mom took the mic to read a letter from my brother, who is active duty Army and was unable to make the wedding due to being on a training mission in Indonesia. I cried like a baby!”
“Our goal was to have our wedding feel like a tailgate or a backyard BBQ since that sums up our first meeting and engagement. We wanted it to be relaxed and fun- and we accomplished that.”
Samantha is an IT Help Desk Technician and Caleb is Preventative Specialist & Athletic Trainer. They currently reside in Thurmont.
