September WInery Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Sarah + Jonathan

Sarah and Jonathan met in June 2013 at a local bar. “We went to the same high school and graduated a year apart. We had some mutual friends but never really knew each other. The timing was perfect.”

Jonathan proposed in August 2019, while Sarah was preparing her elementary school classroom for new students. “I was exhausted and wasn’t thrilled about Jonathan’s suggestion that we go for a hike that weekend. With a little convincing we headed out to one of our favorite spots, Pretty Boy Dam. While looking at the water on this beautiful day Jonathan suddenly turned to me and said, ‘Babe, I really love you.’ He began getting down on one knee and I nearly fainted.”

130 guests, including a thirteen-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their nuptials at Linganore Winecellars. “The weather was perfect for our outdoor ceremony. The colors of the rolling hills and vineyard behind us were amazing. We wrote our own vows and my uncle officiated the ceremony. It was very personal and the most magical experience of my life so far.”

Linganore Winecellars was the first and last venue the couple visited. “Right away we could really see ourselves there on the big day. The indoor reception was amazing, complete with wood floors, walls, beams, and vaulted ceilings.”

Sarah and Jonathon chose a garden theme for their decor, using ivory, sage, and gold accents. “On the stems of my bouquet was a ribbon with all of my grandparents’ wedding rings. Our wedding date was extra special because it was also Jonathan’s birthday. We sang happy birthday to him with a candle in a cupcake later in the evening.”

Sarah is an elementary school teacher in Carroll County and Jonathan is a mechanical engineer. They currently reside in New Windsor, Maryland.

Backyard Mountain Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Morgan and William

Morgan and William’s story began in January of 2016 when Morgan performed at an open mic night. “As usual I arrived late and ended up being one of the last people to play that night. Billy had already left by the time I got there, but his mom had taken a video of me singing and posted it to Facebook. Billy saw the video, and messaged me a few days later introducing himself.”

The couple got engaged on Halloween in 2019. “I love Halloween and it’s tradition to watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show, so he invited me over to the bakery where he works to hang out since we’re good friends with the owners. We’re all hanging out and he tells me to check these cookies they made today. I go over to the window and there are three cookies there with the lyrics, ‘The river was deep but I swam it, the future is ours so let’s plan it, so please don’t tell me to can it, I have one thing to say and that’s, Marry Me?’ and he got down on one knee and proposed.”

Morgan and William had originally planned for a June wedding. “We realized COVID wasn’t going away so we went ahead and decided on October. We already had a small guest list but we cut it shorter and really kept it to close family and friends. We had it in our backyard, where we have 15 acres in the Catoctin Mountains. It was perfect.”

25 guests joined the couple on their wedding day. “We kept it super simple and just about us. My three-year-old son walked me down the aisle. I wore my late grandmother’s cameo ring to carry her with me as we got married under an arbor in the yard.

Morgan is a dance teacher for Fusion Fitness and Dance and William works at Stonewerks Bakery in Boonsboro. They currently reside in Smithburg, Maryland.

Fall Mountain Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Caitlin and Colin

Caitlin and Colin met in 2015 when Caitlin added Colin as a friend on Facebook, noting how cute he was. “We had grown up in the same hometown and worked at the same mall, so I knew of Colin – but we went to rival high schools and never had our paths cross. Colin posted a photo of him rescuing a baby bird in his backyard which sparked a Facebook conversation that went on all evening. The next day he invited me to lunch.”

Colin proposed during a concert in 2019. “Colin introduced me to his favorite local band when we first started dating, Silent Old Mountains. We followed them for years and absolutely love going to their shows. SOM played a show at the Sky Stage in Frederick and the lead singer invited Colin to the stage to say a few words about the band. Instead, he proposed in front of a full crowd.”

Eighty guests including a twelve-person wedding party helped the couple celebrate their nuptials in October of 2020. “Colin’s dad was our officiant, which was really special to us. We decided to have an Irish Knot Tying Ceremony. Each of our families chose a ribbon of a significant color while Colin and I also chose a color of our own. Our mothers brought forward their ribbon, and the maid of honor brought ours. Our officiant tied them in a knot on our hands to signify the unity of us and our families.”

The couple described their reception as, “laid back with fall flare. We’re local to Frederick and really love the mountains. Nature is such an important part of our relationship and as avid hikers, we fell in love with Thorpewood.

Caitlin is an administrative secretary for Frederick County Public Schools and Colin is a project engineer for Floswerve. They currently reside in Frederick.

May Vineyard Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Kayla + Brandon

Kayla and Brandon grew up down the street from one another and didn’t even know it. “We found out that we went to the same elementary school, middle school, and high school, but didn’t end up meeting until our two groups of friends went to see a movie. We didn’t end up actually dating until Brandon took me to my senior prom.”

The couple got engaged in Virginia Beach in 2019 while visiting friends. “We ended up going bar hopping. When we were about to leave the last bar, Brandon asked me if I wanted to go to the beach to take some pictures. When we were taking pictures on the beach, he got down on one knee and proposed to me.”

Kayla and Brandon had originally planned an April 2020 wedding, but COVID-19 had other plans. “We had to make the difficult decision to postpone our wedding to the fall of 2020, but with everything still up in the air with restrictions and a vaccine not being widely available yet, we decided to just cancel it with hopes that 2021 might be better.

100 guests were in attendance, including a 10-person wedding party for their May 2021 wedding at Big Cork Vineyards. The couple chose a bohemian theme for their wedding decor. “We had a lot of greenery, eucalyptus, candles, and simple flowers, and let the beautiful venue speak for itself. I carried a handkerchief around my bouquet that my mother, her mother, and her grandmother carried on their wedding day. Brandon’s dad made all the groomsmen, fathers, and grandfathers personalized cuff links with fishing flies tied into them.”

Kayla is a Marketing & Advertising Manager in Baltimore and Brandon is an Account Manager in Columbia. They currently reside in Severn, Maryland.

Backyard Poolside Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Arthur and Jacqueline

Arthur and Jacqueline first met in 2012 while out with friends in Baltimore. “We were both living in Baltimore at the time and met by complete happenstance one night in Fells Point. We have been in each other’s lives ever since that first meeting, and officially become a couple a few years later.”

Arthur proposed in May of 2019. “I got an email from one of my best friends invited us and a bunch of my college friends to a Jurassic Park themed escape room. Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies so I did not question for one minute why some of my friends would be excited to drive hours for an escape room. I had to take a dinosaur bone and put it into a little machine. The machine then spit out a slip of paper that said, ‘Jacqueline, will you marry me?’ I turned around and saw Arthur down on one knee.”

Forty guests, including a nine-person wedding party joined the couple poolside at Jacqueline’s childhood home in Ijamsville for their August 2020 nuptials. “Our ceremony was beautifully prepared by a close friend who performed the marriage. He interviewed some of our friends and family to gather information and wrote a lovely and heartfelt dedication to us as a couple.”

“Our original plan was a black-tie affair at a hotel in Baltimore. Suddenly we went from having our wedding fully planned to having no idea when we’d say our vows. We threw the entire backyard wedding together in about six weeks. Having something to look forward to after months of stress and loss was so refreshing, and our backyard wedding was more amazing than any ballroom.”

The couple chose a tropical theme for their backyard wedding. “We encouraged all of our guests to wear festive tropical attire and to bring bathing suits to enjoy the pool after the ceremony.”

Arthur is a facilities manager and Jacqueline is a marketing professional. They currently reside in Cabin John, Maryland.

Lawton 70th Anniversary

Bill & Paula Lawton are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, June 30, 2021 – a joyful lifetime together from early days in Maine and New England, the birth and raising of two children, and the wonder of five grandchildren. Their work and interests have taken them to a year of living in England, lengthy visits to Europe, Russia, Australia and New Zealand, visiting family and friends in Ireland, travel to South America, homes in Frederick, MD and North Chatham, NY, and then resettling on Maryland’s eastern shore in 2013. Their life together is filled with science (his work as a microbiologist and love of vegetable gardening) and art (her work as a decorative artist and teacher) and the love of many friends and family who wish them all the best on this amazing achievement.

Linton 50th Anniversary

Announcing the 50th anniversary of Anna Marie Linton and Larry Leston Linton on June 20th, 2021. The couple met at Frederick High School as members of the marching band and continued dating even though Larry attended TJ his senior year. The couple is now retired and split their time between Frederick and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Elisabeth and Aaron met in 2014 and started a long-distance relationship after meeting through mutual friends and playing video games online together. “After a year of long-distance, we wanted to be closer together, and have been living together ever since.”

“Aaron proposed on what seemed a regular Tuesday afternoon. I was on a call with a friend, one of my would-be bridesmaids, in my pajamas. He came home from work early, texted my friend to have me turn around, and he was on his knee with the ring when I looked. I never saw it coming, especially not on such a menial evening, and I think that’s what made it perfect for us.”

43 guests including a two-person wedding party helped the couple celebrate their January nuptials. “I’ve dreamed of Ceresville since I was a little girl. I grew up in the Frederick Area, and Ceresville was always that quintessential picturesque place. Our colors were navy, dusty blue, and pink. We wanted a frosty, winter feel.”

Elisabeth’s bouquet had her great-grandmother’s engagement necklace attached. “We also made sure to include a memorial table, as I lost an aunt and grandfather during the wedding planning, and my grandmother passed four days before the wedding. Aaron and I aren’t dancers, but we choreographed our first dance ourselves. Everyone loved it and still talks about it months later.”

Elisabeth is a chemist in Baltimore, and Aaron is a store manager. They currently reside in Parkville, Maryland.

10-Person Backyard Farm Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Kelsie + Ben

Kelsie and Ben met in 2015 when Kelsie was visiting a friend at Duke University. “That weekend, he suggested that we go to a party at a guy’s house. The guy’s name was ‘Ben Green.’ I distinctly remembered the name because everyone kept referring to him by his first and last name. Fast forward to 2017, when I went to visit my friend again- this time he was living in Arlington, Virginia, and his roommate was none other than Ben Green. After reminiscing about North Carolina over some grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, it became clear that there was something special. We went on our first date a week later and have been together ever since.”

The couple got engaged in October of 2019. “Ben drove us up to my parent’s farm and proposed on the hillside with the field of crops in the background. It was so peaceful, private, and perfect. We then headed downtown to Firestones to celebrate.”

Initially, Ben and Kelsie had not planned to get married in Frederick. “With the pandemic, our plans had to drastically change. Once we knew we wouldn’t be having our big wedding, it became clear that our intimate wedding needed to be somewhere we both loved, which was my family farm in Frederick. There was so much family history there, and we loved that we could share it with our 10 guests. We even ended up getting married in the same spot on the farm where Ben proposed.”

Instead of 200 guests, the couple had 10 attendees. “Our pastor even had to Zoom in from Illinois to perform the ceremony. Ben and I decided to write our own vows, which is something we would have never shared with over 200 people.”

Kelsie and Ben chose decor that complimented the farm. “We tried to have lots of personal and natural elements for decorations. Nothing was overstated or overdone. We also had family photos of loved ones who couldn’t attend because of COVID-19 restrictions spread across the tables.”

Ben is a Water Resource Planner at Wood, PLC. Kelsie is an English teacher at Urbana High School. They currently reside in Downtown Frederick.

Molly and Jason met in 2018 after Jason saw Molly’s photos on the dating app Plenty of Fish. The two exchanged messages and Jason decided to come home early from vacation so they could go on a date at Frederick Coffee Company. “I video chatted with him first to make sure he was not catfishing me.”

The couple got engaged in August of 2019. After browsing at promise rings. “When we got home we were talking about marriage. I went to sit in bed and he came in and got down on his knee and proposed to me. I of course said yes.”

Seventy guests helped the couple celebrate their March 2021 nuptials, including a seven-person wedding party, at Mountain Memories at Thorpewood. “We had the ceremony in the pine cathedral.

We decided to get married at Thorpewood because Jason’s dad died a few years ago and we could feel his presence there. We also loved the seclusion and the privacy.”

The couple chose a Dr. Who theme for their wedding using “Tardis blue” and white for their decor.

Molly is a veterinary assistant at Banfield Village Market and Jason is a Commercial Sales Manager at Autozone. They currently reside in Thurmont.

Madalyn and Shannon met at military training in Texas in 2017. “We became best friends at training. We fell in love, both got orders to Fort Meade, and three years later decided to get married before moving to South Korea.”

The couple got engaged in May 2019 when while hiking in Washington State. “We love to hike and Shannon proposed in the middle of a mountainous valley and it was perfect.”

Thirteen guests were in attendance for their January 2021 wedding, including a two-person wedding party. “It was very intimate and all COVID-19 guidelines were adhered to. We chose to get married in Frederick because we love the mountainous landscape and we frequently go there to hike. Holly Hills was a perfect venue for us because they were in a great location and had a gorgeous facility. It was beautiful and I couldn’t have asked for a better space.”

Madalyn and Shannon chose a more formal feel for their small wedding and used burgundy, gold, and navy accents for their decor. “I loved every minute of our day, but my favorite part was definitely seeing everyone I love together since we don’t live near our families, being in the military.”

Both Madalyn and Shannon are on active duty in the Air Force. They currently reside in Owings Mills, Maryland.

Bailey met Brady in 2017 while working as a flight attendant. “Brady was living in Florida playing baseball at the time and he broke his hand during the season. He was sent back to Frederick after surgery to recover. We were both catching up with our friends on our weekend home at a mutual friends home. Brady asked me on a date to Il Porto and we stayed for hours until they closed. Neither of us wanted the night to end. Brady drove me home slowly just to spend more time together. That night we knew.”

After a year of long distance dating Brady took Bailey back to the scene of their first date. “When we got home and pulled in the driveway there was a whole setup with flowers, photos, and a sign asking me to marry him. I turned around and all our family and friends were there. It was perfect.”

100 guests, including a six-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their October wedding. “Bluebird Manor is on my family’s farm, my favorite part was being able to get married at home. We wanted a very intimate ceremony, “Our pastor could not have made our ceremony more special.”

The couple chose a “Italian elegance” theme for their wedding decor. “We wanted people to feel like they stepped back in time at an Italian wedding, but with a twist since it was in a barn. We had a pasta bar for dinner, cannolis for dessert, and a cigar bar. For décor we used greenery, candles, lemons, and olive oil bottles.”

Bailey is the manager of Bluebird Manor, a new wedding venue in Frederick. Brady is a professional baseball player. They currently reside in Frederick.

Romantic Springfield Manor October Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Ariana + Michael

Michael and Ariana met in 2013 while attending Salisbury University. “We were both at a concert and our paths crossed. We instantly hit it off. We danced the afternoon away together and had so much fun. I ended up asking Michael to be my date for my sorority formal. He said yes, and we’ve been together ever since.”

Michael proposed in 2017 while visiting Ariana’s family for Thanksgiving. “Although it was a bit chilly, my dad suggested we go down to Leonardtown Wharf to take some photos. It wasn’t too long before I suggested we wrap things up and head home. We posed for one last photo, but really my dad was taking a video. Next thing I know, Michael was getting down on one knee.”

The couple had planned for a June wedding, but COVID-19 led to pushing it back until October. ”After all the waiting, planning, and anticipation of our special day, it was quite devastating when we realized we had to postpone our wedding. But we made the best of it.”

Eighty guests, including a nine-person wedding party, attended their ceremony at St. John the Evangelist in Downtown Frederick. ”The church did a great job at blocking off every other pew to allow for social distancing and family units were asked to sit together.”

Michael and Ariana chose a color palette of blush and navy blue with white flowers and greenery. “Although we switched from a June wedding to a fall wedding, we kept our color palette but added some burgundy to add some fall color.”

Michael wore his late father’s Maryland State Police pin inside his suit jacket, and Ariana gifted him a photo charm of his father that said “In my heart, forever” that he also wore in his jacket. Their florist used lace from the wedding dress of Ariana’s mother to wrap around her bouquet.

Michael is a Physician Assistant in Frederick and Ariana is a registration specialist for a meetings and event planning company. They currently reside in Frederick.

Caitlin and Cody met while both working in downtown Frederick. Caitlin told Cody on their first date that he “must be the perfect man.” The April 17th wedding happened under the bell tower in Baker Park. The ceremony was followed by a carillon bell performance by John Widmann in Baker Park. Cody is the owner of Perfect Truffle in Downtown Frederick and Caitlin is a Direct Care COunselor at Excel Youth.

Pink and Green November Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Erin + Michael

Erin and Michael met in 2017 and started dating soon after. Michael proposed in October 2019 on a rooftop at sunset in Bethesda, Maryland. “We met at church. Michael says I asked him out but I think it’s the opposite.”

Seventy guests were in attendance, including a ten-person wedding party for their November wedding. “We were married in a Christian ceremony with readings by both of our grandmothers.”

The couple chose pink, green, and white for their wedding decor. “I wanted a classic romantic feel Ceresville Mansion reminded me of the house in The Notebook, which is my favorite movie. I loved the outdoor scenery and classic feel of the mansion.

Erin is an assistant district manager for military housing and Michael is a hospital corpsman in the Navy. They currently live in Oceanside, California.

Christopher and Caitlin met at Crisafulli’s Cheese Shop in Downtown Frederick, which Caitlin used to own. “We bonded over our mutual love of cheese & beer.”

The couple got engaged in 2018 while at a Vapors concert in New York City.

Seventy guests, including a ten-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their outdoor October wedding. “The ceremony was short and sweet. Holly Hills has great views and backdrops for photos.”

After having to cut their guest list significantly due to Covid-19 concerns, the couple wanted a laid-back vibe to their wedding. For the decor, I just picked my favorite colors. The vibe was laid back. We loved partying and celebrating with friends and family.”

Chris is a small business owner and owns a restaurant in Downtown Frederick and a pizzeria in Williamsport. Caitlin is a former small business owner and Certified Cheese Professional who now works in real estate title. They currently reside in Frederick.

Winter Antrim Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Kimberly + Bryan

Growing up together in the same small town, Bryan and Kimberly had known each other nearly their entire lives. “We began to talk and spend some time together three years ago, during a difficult time for both of us. That friendship grew into love, something neither of us was expecting.”

Bryan Proposed in December of 2019. “Bryan texted me to ask if I wanted to go to dinner. I honestly did not feel like going, but I gave in. Little did I know that Bryan had already been to the restaurant to make reservations and tell them what was going to happen. He proposed about halfway through the meal.”

Seventy-one guests, including a seven-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their December nuptials at Antrim 1844. “A good friend of mine who is a pastor married us. We had a very traditional, simple ceremony. Bryan surprised me by saying he wanted us to write our own vows, but now I am glad that we did.”

The couple chose a burgundy and grey color palette for their wedding decor. “We were going for an elegant feel to the day to match the grounds, decorations, and mansion at Antrim. We originally were leaning towards a spring or summer wedding because we loved the gorgeous gardens at Antrim, but after visiting and seeing it decorated for Christmas, we were sold.”

Kimberly and Bryan also chose to have some personalized details incorporated into their special day. “I love giraffes and Bryan’s thing is old cars. We had a 1970 Torino in our photographs. We had giraffes and model cars at our guest book. Our guests received a sweet treat of giraffe and vintage truck sugar cookies for a favor.”

Bryan is the owner/operator of an auto repair and towing business, and the owner of a home improvement business and Kimberly serves as the operations manager for both businesses. They reside in Hagerstown.

Andrew and Lauren met at a cookout. “It was truly love at first sight for me. We both were in the hospitality industry and wanted to have our own business one day. After three months of talking, we decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend.”

A year into dating, Andrew and Lauren got engaged. “He proposed on a random Tuesday night in our living room. It was honestly the most romantic thing ever. It was just the two of us and so special. Rose petals everywhere and our song playing in the background.”

A sixteen-person wedding party helped Andrew and Lauren celebrate their October nuptials. “Our ceremony was short and sweet and super laid back just like both Andrew and I. We wrote our own vows, prayed together and our officiant was a family friend so she was able to really personalize it for us.”

The couple chose a color palette of red and gray for their wedding decor. “We were engaged for three years so I had a lot of time to plan every detail. Andrews’s family is Arabic so we had a few traditions that we incorporated into our wedding. We were able to hire a DJ and have him play some Arabic music and then surprised our guests with a belly dancer.”

Andrew is a chef and Lauren is an infant teacher. They reside in Fairfield, Pennsylvania.

Caboose Farm Micro Wedding ::Real Frederick Wedding :: Robin and William

William and Robin met in 2017 when they both auditioned for the Frederick-based production of “Into the Woods”. “We both love musical theatre and had mutual friends auditioning. We became best friends during the run of the production, texting constantly and cracking jokes. After the production ended, we stayed friends and started dating.”

William proposed in March of 2019 during a hike to White’s Ferry with their dog. “Right before Billy got down in one knee, our dog decided to poop, so I ended up being proposed to with a dog waste bag in my hand. I didn’t even care, it was still the best moment, poop bag and all.”

13 guests were in attendance for their August 2020 wedding at Caboose Farm. “We chose to only have immediate family in attendance due to Covid, but it was absolutely perfect. Our ceremony was held next to a creek in the woods and we had our friend officiate. It was quiet and beautiful, just what we wanted. We were supposed to get married in May, then had to push it back to August, then we decided to cut our guest list way down. It was probably the most stressful time in our life, but the fact that we got through it and still had the most amazing day with our close family really put into perspective what the day was really about.”

The couple chose a colorful palette for their wedding day decor. “We love color and are definitely not afraid of some quirky touches. From my two-colored wedding dress to Billy’s Captain America boutonniere, to our lightsaber exit, we wanted both of our personalities to show quite clearly. Everything was pretty laid back, we just wanted the day to scream ‘joy’ and make people smile and have fun.”

Billy is a high school drama teacher and Robin is a coordinator with the Humane Society of the United States. They currently reside in Poolesville, Maryland.

September Sunday Brunch Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Kaitlin and Kevin

Kaitlin and Kevin met on a dating app and went on their first date in Washington, DC. “We talked for hours over drinks. We were out so long, Kevin wound up getting a parking ticket at the metro. I thought that would end things on a sour note and there’d be no second date – but he quickly texted me that it had been totally worth it.”

Kevin proposed while the couple was out to dinner with friends. “Just before dessert, Kevin began retelling a humorous story from a date we had at the same restaurant over two years ago. On that date, Kevin was so enraptured by his after-dinner coffee that he didn’t see the check on the table. When I asked if he wanted to split it, he thought I was talking about the coffee and said, ‘No, order your own.’ At the conclusion of his story, he turned to me and said, ‘While I didn’t want to share my coffee with you then, I would love to share the rest of my life with you.’”

Forty-seven guests celebrated the couple’s September wedding, including a six-person wedding party. “Our flower girl Sylvie walked down with our ‘groomsdog’ Theodore and stole the show. For our personal thoughts, I read him my light-hearted but sincere sentiments, and he read a love poem that he wrote.”

Kaitlin and Kevin chose to have a Sunday brunch wedding. “We embraced the brunch theme through the menu with a chicken and waffles station and custom mimosas and had personalized ‘Sunday morning wedding newspapers’ which served as programs and a source of entertainment for guests.”

Face masks for the guests were handmade by Kevin’s mother in their wedding colors. Guests also received a “Spread Love, Not Germs” hand sanitizer upon arrival.

Kaitlin is a regulatory analyst and Kevin is a program manager. They currently reside in Reston, Virginia.

Jordann and Caleb met at a graduation party they almost didn’t attend. “We both were friends of friends of the graduate. We’ve been together for seven years now and are so glad we both decided to go.”

Caleb proposed the day after Thanksgiving in 2019. “He had been carrying the ring around for a while waiting for the perfect moment. I’m very hard to catch off guard so he just decided to pull it out that day out of the blue. It was perfect.”

Eighty-six guests, including a fourteen-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their November multicultural nuptials. “I’m Jewish and my husband is African American. We stood under a chuppah, he broke the glass, and we jumped over the broom. I got married in my mom’s original plain wedding band, just like she got married in her mom’s. He placed it on my forefinger per Jewish tradition, then after the ceremony, I gave it back to my mom and he put on the band he bought for me.”

Jordann and Caleb chose to incorporate the fall season into their wedding decor. “We wanted it to be classy but not black-tie formal. Musket Ridge stood out because the scenery is breathtaking, especially in the fall.”

Jordann is a pediatric nurse and Caleb is an electrical engineer. They currently reside in Rockville.

January Ceresville Mansion Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Taylor + Adam

Adam and Taylor met in the Spring of 2016, at an Annapolis dock bar through mutual friends. “I really wasn’t looking to date anyone at the time and basically had to be forced to go out. However, I quickly warmed up to Adam’s charms.”

A few days before Christmas in 2018, the couple went to downtown Annapolis for what Taylor thought was some last-minute gift shopping. “Adam pointed out the Christmas tree downtown before we started shopping and I went to snap a photo of it. Little did I know that he was trying to get me into a predetermined spot in front of the tree to propose so that a hidden photographer could capture everything. After the proposal, Adam had arranged for some of my closest friends and family, including my 90-year-old grandmother, to share brunch with us. It was so much fun and unexpected.”

135 guests, including nine bridesmaids and 7 groomsmen helped the couple celebrate their nuptials at Ceresville Mansion in January 2020. “I absolutely loved the ceremony backdrop at Ceresville, with the flowers and candles adorning the fireplace mantle, and the chandelier reflecting in the mirror.”

“When we first spoke to Ceresville, we told them that the vibe we were going for was ‘elegant, but fun.’ It was black-tie optional, yet anything but stuffy. The colors were mostly whites and ivories, with a touch of dusty lavender. I used a mix of metallics for jewelry and decor to give everything a more vintage feel.”

Adam is a senior program manager for an aerospace and defense company and Taylor is a program analyst in the anti-money laundering field. They currently reside in Annapolis.

Allyson and Lonnie attended the same high school and began dating in the summer of 2017. “I think we both knew pretty early on that we would like to get married. Lonnie proposed on our one-year anniversary at our house. We decided to wait a little over two years to get married as I was finishing college and pursuing my CPA license.”

120 guests, including three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, two flower girls, and two ring bearers, attended the couple’s October nuptials. “Our wedding ceremony was on private property overlooking the Potomac River in Knoxville, Maryland. It had a breathtaking backdrop. The ceremony itself was short and sweet and during the ceremony, we recited traditional vows and put together a unity cross.”

The reception also took place on the family friend’s farm. “We are extremely grateful that they allowed us to use their property. They have an absolutely gorgeous event barn that overlooks the Potomac River. It was not your typical backyard wedding.”

The couple chose fall colors for their decor and had a moonshine fountain during the reception. “It was just a relaxed night spending time with our friends and family.”

Lonnie is a beef cattle farmer and Allyson is an accountant. They reside in Boonsboro.

When Jennifer moved to Maryland in the summer of 2015 for work she decided to join a dating app. “Pavel was my first date through that app, so I got really lucky. We met for the first time in person at the annual Kentlands Oktoberfest. We walked around and got to know each other, talking until well after the vendors had closed up shop.”

After dating for three years, Pavel proposed to Jennifer in front of the Brooklyn Bridge. “It had been my dream to see the Christmas tree in NYC and Pavel had planned this awesome trip while secretly planning his proposal. When we got to the Brooklyn Bridge, there was a set of stairs covered with cardboard and Pavel started to pick it up. I was confused as to why he decided to suddenly pick up trash, but then saw the chalk words ‘Will You Marry Me?’ being uncovered. Then I blacked out for a second. Fortunately, Pavel had hired a photographer to capture the moment.”

The couple was married at Kentlands Mansion in December 2019 with fifty guests attending. “We attended Kentlands Oktoberfest every year after our first date. It was the backdrop to many of our walks through the neighborhood. It just seemed right to have it in the place where we first met and fell in love.”

Jennifer and Pavel chose a winter theme for their wedding decor, using the colors green and gold, and doing most of the decorating on their own, including building the arch they stood under for the ceremony. Jennifer also hand-lettered the signage and built her flower bouquet.

Jennifer is a clinical social worker and Pavel is an IT systems engineer. They currently reside in Gresham, Oregon.

Amber and David met twelve years ago at a salsa dance class in College Park, Maryland. “I was in graduate school and David was working on campus. I was considering switching to another dance class. He encouraged me to stay. His obvious interest in me, sweet face, and playful demeanor convinced me to stay. Throughout that first-semester dance class, David would always walk me to my car. After a month or so of playful flirtation, David took me on our first date.”

The couple spent nine years together before getting engaged. “We proposed to each other in Mount Hood forest in Oregon. We both picked out rings for each other and exchanged rings and vows at a beautiful lake overlooking Mount Hood at sunset.”

Amber and David’s October 2019 ceremony was held at the Pinewood Cathedral at Mountain Memories at Thorpewood. “There were Jewish elements to the ceremony, as David is Jewish, and as a couple, we have embraced some Jewish traditions. We were married under a chuppah where David’s grandfather’s prayer shawl was hung. Each member of our family played a special part in our wedding.”

The couple chose a “forest romance” theme for their wedding. “We wanted romantic muted colors that would complement the natural change in colors accompanying autumn. We used a fall color palette- there were deep purples, navy blues, forest greens, and burgundy. The men wore black suits with grey ties and had burgundy boutonnières.”

David is a design thinking consultant and owns his own business. Amber is an environmental scientist and owner of AIPCoLab. They currently reside in Portland, Oregon.

Katy and Adam began dating in 2014 when they were both attending the University of Delaware. “I sent an awkward text asking her out, and we were set for that Friday. On a whim, Katy sent me a message the next day asking if I wanted to meet her at a coffee shop where she was studying. Although we initially planned to study, we spent the entire time talking, only stopping when the coffee shop closed.”

After five years of dating, Adam proposed in December of 2017 outside the Washington Botanical Garden. “While touring the gardens, I texted Katy’s friends to get into position outside. There was a snag in the plan– Katy wanted to leave before her friends could arrive. Looking for any reason to stay, I pretended to really enjoy the cactus exhibit and insisted we take another look at it. Katy’s friends assembled outside just in time to take photos as I knelt down and proposed.”

The couple had originally planned for a 125-person gathering in April 2020, but due to COVID-19, chose an intimate nine guest wedding. “We each had wedding parties of five of our dearest friends, but some of our wedding party celebrated with us from afar. Safety concerns were our number one priority.”

Within a few weeks of making the decision that they wanted to elope with a larger reception at a later, safer date, Katy and Adam started planning their ceremony. “Our wedding ceremony came together as a bright and joyous oasis amidst the uncertainty of the pandemic. My matron of honor stepped in as our officiant and our siblings read poems. It was truly a team effort.”

After the ceremony, the couple was greeted by a surprise car parade of some of their dearest friends. “After the parade, some of the participants pulled up their picnic blankets and stuck around for dinner, the slideshow, and speeches. The party ended as the sun went down with a masked sparkler sendoff that couldn’t have felt more magical.”

Katy is a speech-language pathologist in Montgomery County Public Schools and Adam works for the government. They currently reside in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Michael and Kellie met on Tinder in 2014. “We were each other’s first and last Tinder date.”

Michael planned a surprise trip for Kellie’s 30th Birthday that ended with a proposal. “He did not tell me where we were going, and we picked up two of my closest friends on the way to the airport. Upon landing, we drove to Palm Springs, California, and stayed in a beautiful Airbnb which my friends had decorated for a 30th celebration. The last night in Palm Springs we headed to get dinner at a restaurant. Once we got there, we headed away from the restaurant, and instead down a hiking path for a group picture. Michael pulled me up onto a rocky outlook, played one of my favorite songs, pulled up a Tinder-themed slideshow of some of the best pictures from our years together, and asked me to marry him.”

123 guests, including a fourteen-person wedding party, helped the couple celebrate their 2019 New Year’s Eve nuptials. “Our officiant was our very close friend who told the story of our adventures together and journey to this special moment. We exchanged our personally written vows that included many laughs and many tears.”

Kellie and Michael used accents of stars and sparkles to tie together their wedding decor. “The guests were asked to wear black tie festive– we just wanted everyone to feel beautiful and special in what made them feel best. Each table setting was a unique piece borrowed from the bride and grooms family.”

The countdown to celebrate the new year had everyone on the dance floor, complete with a confetti cannon as the clock struck midnight. “The dancing was even more fun after that with all the confetti being kicked up on the floor.”
Kellie is an event planner and Michael is an energy scientist. They currently reside in Arlington, Virginia.

February Mountain Memories at Thorpewood Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Samantha and Bryan

Bryan and Samantha met in 2010 through a mutual friend. “Our first few meetings were uneventful. I invited Bryan to my 20th birthday party and we continued to hang out and get to know each other, only to go our separate ways. We connected again in 2012, but it still wasn’t the right time for a relationship. Finally, in 2015 we reconnected again, became friends, roommates, and soulmates.”

In October of 2019 Bryan scheduled a surprise birthday trip but was keeping the main event a secret. “A few days before the trip, I learned that I was booked for a flight to Chicago, but I had no idea why. We flew to Chicago where Bryan had rented an RV for us to drive to the 2020 World Championship Punkin Chunkin, an event we both loved. We enjoyed watching pumpkins fly through the sky and reminiscing about our past Punkin Chunkin experiences. As the event wound down, Bryan said we hadn’t taken any pictures together and that we should ask someone for a picture of us. I was bundled up in multiple layers and blankets, and I said we’d just get a photo later. Much to my confusion and surprise, Bryan had already recruited someone to take our photo and was insistent about pulling me out of my chair. As I was reaching out to hug Bryan, I found that he was down on one knee. I was so shocked that I forgot to say ‘yes’.”

Samantha and Bryan had a February 2020 wedding inside the lodge of Mountain Memories at Thorpewood. “The Thorpewood property was beautiful. It offered several different locations all with their own natural beauty.”

After a ceremony and photos, the couple had a dinner reception at Brewer’s Alley in downtown Frederick. “We loved the mix of venues between the mountain beauty of Thorpewood and then the upbeat and more urban setting downtown.”

Samantha is an early education teacher in Baltimore City and Bryan is an engineer. They currently reside in Middle River, Maryland.
