Classic Ceresville Blue and Green Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Frances and Travis

After meeting on Match.com, Frances and Travis went to the Smithsonian National Zoo in DC for their first date. “It was very cold that night and I had giant earmuffs on, so I can honestly say that I only heard about half of what he said,” shared Frances.

The couple had 200 guests in attendance at their Ceresville Mansion wedding. “We wanted to get married outside, but also wanted somewhere with a good indoor option,” Frances shared. Thankfully they were able to say their vows outdoors as planned. Four groomsmen and two bridesmaids made up the couple’s bridal party.

Frances and Travis chose a color palette of blue and green for their reception. To round out the evening, the couple had a unique getaway. “My dream car, which I only recently bought a few years ago, made a star performance. She’s a 1955 Buick Roadmaster, red and white, and I got her running in time for the wedding. I also got to drive us away, and had the old-fashioned cans and balloons tied to the bumper.”

Travis is a paralegal and Frances is a technical writer. They currently live in Washington, DC.

Patrick and Bonnie Volovar have enjoyed 50 years of wedded bliss and celebrated in September by enjoying a week-long Windjammer cruise in Maine and a visit to Prince Edward Island. The couple credits marrying your very best friend and the 3 “Cs” for their happiness: Communication, Compromise, and Communication. Adding to their Joie de Vivre are the lights of their life together, 13 grandchildren, 11 of whom live nearby while two are in Los Angeles. Their 4 children and their spouses are grateful to be privileged enough to witness their parents’ mutual love and respect for each other and aspire to be just like them one day.

Wilson-Samen Wedding

Nicole Wilson and George Samen Jr. were married on September 25th, 2017 at the Frederick County Courthouse. The couple held a private ceremony, where the bride and groom were accompanied by their immediate families. The two met while working together at Dunkin Donuts.

Nicole is a medical billing specialist and George is a mitigation estimator. They live in Libertytown.

International Stone Manor Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Caitlin + Nathan

Planning the perfect Frederick wedding when the groom-to-be is 10,000 miles away in Australia wasn’t easy, but Caitlin and Nathan pulled off their July wedding despite the distance.

“This wedding was a huge deal for everyone. Nathan and I have been long distance for the majority of our relationship, so most of my friends didn’t meet him until our wedding. Everyone was so excited to finally meet him and see us together. It was so special taking this next step in our lives with the love and support of our friends and family.”

Nathan and Caitlin met through mutual friends at a rugby party in Towson. “We actually hated each other when we first met!” Caitlin said. But after continued talks, the two ended up having a lot in common and began dating. “We dated for about four months when Nathan and his family returned to their home in Australia. We decided to try out long distance and we never looked back.” The couple has been together for four years.

“We didn’t see each other before the ceremony, but we touched hands and my photographers captured the moment,” shared Caitlin. “It made me even more excited to see him. I also loved the first look with my dad. It was such a special moment and I’m glad I was able to share that with him.”

The couple had six bridesmaids and six groomsmen in their bridal party for their outdoor wedding ceremony at Stone Manor. 138 guests were in attendance for their sunny day. In order to feel closer to her late grandparents, Caitlin walked down the aisle with a handkerchief that belonged to her late grandmother, pins her late grandfather always wore, and her late grandmother’s pearl necklace.

The couple placed an Australian and an American flag on each table at their reception, as well as share some Australian gifts for wedding favors.

Nathan is a chef and Caitlin is a crime analyst. Caitlin currently lives in Frederick, while Nathan is still in Australia as he waits for his American visa.

The day Rachel and Rick said “I do” was sunny and hot, without a single cloud in sight. Well, except one. “Out of nowhere, one raincloud rolled over, providing a sun-shower during the ceremony,” shared Rachel. “It wasn’t ideal, but it was cool to have a rainbow overhead while saying our vows.”

The couple had five groomsmen and five bridesmaids in their wedding party. Rick’s close friend Scott officiated the outdoor ceremony with 115 guests in attendance. “Having our friend marry us made the ceremony extra personal.”

The couple chose navy blue and coral as their primary wedding colors. Touches of burlap were weaved throughout the reception decor.

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the couple opted to serve late night pizza. “Neither of us are big fans of cake. And after hours of adult beverages, who doesn’t want pizza?”

Rick is an account executive at Pritchett Controls and Rachel is a stay at home mom to her two children, with a third arriving in December. They currently live in Frederick.

June Springfield Manor Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Amanda and Joe

Joe proposed near the water in St. Michaels during sunset in October 2015. As Amanda said “yes” and the two kissed, onlookers cheered from their boats. “It was like something out of a movie,” Amanda noted.

Their outdoor wedding took place behind the Springfield Manor home, under a white pergola, facing the mountains. The groom’s uncle officiated the wedding ceremony with 175 guests in attendance. The couple had five bridesmaids, a junior bridesmaid, five groomsmen and a ring bearer.

Amanda and Joe hoped to bring a theme of “light and airy” to their wedding. They did this by focusing on a color palette of whites, creams, and greens. Pops of color included the blush bridesmaid dresses and the groomsmen’s gray suits.

Joe’s cousin and best man was overseas and couldn’t attend the wedding in person, but he and Amanda surprised the groom with a pre-made video. “There wasn’t a dry eye in the room and it was such a special moment,” Amanda shared.

Amanda and her mother also shared a sweet moment, dancing to the Gilmore Girls theme song. “It was a moment just like in the show where Rory’s mom walked her down the aisle- I will cherish that for the rest of my life.”

Amanda works in Human Resources and is also a part-time fashion blogger, Joe works in medical device sales. They currently live in Timonium, Maryland.

Igo-Smith Wedding

The couple met on a ‘snow day’ when they both were working and living in Dallas, Texas.

The groom went to Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, graduated with a B.S. degree from Elon University, worked for State Farm Insurance, and is currently attending the Emory University School of Law in Atlanta. The bride grew up in Little Rock, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and is a digital marketing supervisor with 360i in Atlanta.

The wedding ceremony took place at First United Methodist Church of Little Rock, Arkansas and the reception was held at the Country Club of Little Rock.

Parents of the bride are Susan and David Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas. Parents of the groom are Kathleen and Tom Igo of Frederick, Maryland.

The bridal party included the couple’s family and friends. The groomsmen, dressed in classic black tuxedos, were: John Igo (best man, brother of the groom), Brian Igo (brother of the groom), Matthew Smith (brother of the bride), Ben Brooks, Dan Foit, Michael McNulty, Zach Gillis, and Gary Wilson. The bridesmaids wore ivory satin gowns and included: Kristie Flynn (maid of honor), Kelsey Igo (sister of the groom), Lindsey Jordan, Rachel Petty, Maria McKiege, Loring Knott, Caitlin McCaslin, and Sara Harris.

After a honeymoon in Mexico, the couple returned to their home in Atlanta, Georgia.

Nandram-Martin Wedding

Nerissa Sharda Nandram and Steven Luther Martin were married on March 19, 2017 at The North Deck in Trinidad/Tobago. A reception immediately followed the ceremony at the same location. A stateside reception was held at the Worman’s Mill Community Clubhouse on June 24, 2017.

The bride is the daughter of Rajdial and Chandra Nandram of Charlieville, Trinidad. The groom is the son of Jonathan and Janet Martin of Frederick, Maryland. The groom’s brother, Samuel Martin, was the best man.

The bride graduated from Saint John’s University in New York with a Bachelor of Science degree in actuarial science. She is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and is currently employed as an actuary by AIG. The groom graduated from University of Maryland Baltimore Campus with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in math. He is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and is currently employed as an actuary for Liberty Mutual. The couple resides in Boston, Mass. and plans to take a November honeymoon to Australia and New Zealand.

Lilik-Burkell Engagement

Joe and Liz met through a mutual friend in the fall of 2015. Sparks flew during a Halloween outing, and after a few dates consisting of good wine, tasty dinners, and hiking, the relationship took off.

The two were able to quickly bond over their mutual love of animals, their faith, the outdoors, and Wine Kitchen burgers! Some of their favorite times together have been hanging out with friends, playing darts, drinking good beer, road trips, country concerts, bowling, kayaking, a trip to Deep Creek with Joe’s family, and lounging around with the cats and dog.

After dating for a little over a year, Joe proposed to Liz in December of 2016, during a romantic date-night out at one of their favorite restaurants (8407 Kitchen Bar – Silver Spring, MD), followed by seeing the beautiful Christmas lights at the Mormon Temple. After Joe gave Liz an ornament of an engagement ring in a box, he knelt down in true gentleman fashion with the real thing and asked her to marry him in front of the illuminated temple and a cheering group of people. After asking if he was serious a few dozen times, she happily said “yes.”

Aaron and Ashley met on the bus while commuting from their jobs in Frederick. After exchanging numbers and chatting on the phone, they decided a first date was in order. The couple got engaged in May 2016, while celebrating the anniversary of Ashley’s parents.

The couple had three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, and one flower girl in their wedding party. 120 guests were in attendance at their Walkersville Community Church ceremony. “The ceremony was great and everything was perfect. Many High School friends and family members joined our celebration, some from out of town,” Aaron mentioned.

Ashley said her favorite part of the day was seeing Aaron dressed in his tuxedo and seeing her “parents and grandparents so happy for us.” Aaron shared that his favorite part of the day was watching Ashley walk down the aisle.

The couple chose a beach theme for their wedding. Coral, teal and blue adorned the decor at the reception. “We set up chairs, beach towels, umbrellas, some tropical plants and beach fencing to create a scene for people to sit and take pictures. The lanterns were all painted by Ashley’s mom and aunt to match the sand color.” The couple used seashells to write guest’s names for the seating chart. Aaron’s friend made lighthouses as gifts for their mothers.

Ashley works at Giant. Aaron is a Sales Associate at Walmart and also the equipment manager for the Walkersville High School Football Team. They currently live in Walkersville.

You can never go wrong with a puppy proposal. “I was coming home from the gym, and I had just pulled into the driveway when I saw our dog, Cecilia, running out to greet me. I noticed that there was a box attached to her collar. I took the box off and opened it, and looked up to see Dylan behind her. It was completely unexpected!” Dylan had arranged for all of their friends to join them after the proposal for a celebratory cookout. “It was perfect,” Hannah noted.

The five bridesmaids and two matrons of honor wore beige muted floral floor-length gowns, and the six groomsmen and best man wore sharkskin pants with brown leather suspenders. Various nieces and nephews were also part of their outdoor ceremony at ThorpeWood. Hannah’s mother walked her down the aisle. “It was so very special having her by my side. I lost my dad to cancer two years ago.” 150 guests were in attendance.

The rustic with a modern twist-themed wedding included succulents, pale green and peach tones, and rose gold accents. Fried Chicken and Waffles, hamburgers and fries, and Maryland style crab cakes were part of the menu. Guests meandered the property after dinner. Some hung out by the fire making s’mores, danced inside the lodge, or relaxed on the stone porch. “We had family and friends in attendance from all over the country at our wedding. It was so special.”

Hannah is a 5th grade teacher at Urbana Elementary School in Frederick. Dylan is a Project Manager for Environmental Quality Resources, specializing in stream restoration. They live in Downtown Frederick.

The couple honeymooned in Riviera Maya, Cancun, Mexico and now reside in their new home in Thurmont, Maryland.

Allison Renee Eader and Patrick James Tighe

“We met at our alma mater, McDaniel College, in spring 2011. A year later, during the spring of our Sophomore year, we became a couple and never looked back. The Hill will always have a special place in our hearts.”

Patrick Proposed on Sunday, August 13, 2017 on the Road to Hana in Maui. Allison is a school counselor and Patrick is a business consultant.

Allison and Jordan’s story began at a bar in Myrtle Beach in 2011. At the end of a night of partying with his friends, Jordan realized he didn’t have his phone. When he called it, Allison, who had found it earlier, answered. They planned a time to meet up, and what was supposed to be a handoff turned into an evening of getting to know one another, and their relationship began.

The couple had a small wedding the next year before Jordan was deployed to Spain, then onto a nine month deployment in Benghazi. The couple decided to renew their vows on their five year anniversary in front of all their friends and family in Mount Airy, including their son, Arlo.

The couple had six bridesmaids and four groomsmen on their rainy wedding day in May. 68 guests witnessed their vows under a gazebo at Serra Valley Farm.

Allison described the feel of their wedding as “rustic chic.” They used hues of grays, pinks and purples to set the mood of the barn reception. While rain may have made other couples unhappy, Allison and Jordan took it in stride and enjoyed the moments it created. “During pictures, it started to rain pretty hard so everyone grabbed umbrellas and my bridesmaids tried to shield me from my groom. It was a riot! Our photographer made the moment so special.”

Jordan is a retired Marine and a student. Allison is a stay at home mom. They currently reside in Mount Airy.

First dance: “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur

The proposal: in a chocolate egg on Easter

Favorite part of planning: “Playing with all the decor- I love being crafty.”

Advice to other couples: “Hire a planner. Totally worth it.”

Backyard Mt. Airy Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Amanda + Clay

Amanda and Clay met in an anthropology class at Frederick Community College. “I told him I liked his Bill and Ted shirt and it was all downhill from there,” noted Amanda. The two have been together about 6 years.

The couple wanted to emphasize a feeling of community for their wedding, and decided the location would play a large role. They decided to hold their special day at Clay’s childhood home in Mt. Airy, where his mother still resides. “She has a beautiful property which she has put a ton of work into.”

The wedding party walked down a hill from the house to the pond and stood on the bank while the couple stood on the island in the middle with their officiant. After the two kissed, they rode off together on a 4-wheeler.

Amanda and Clay had six bridesmaids and six groomsmen in their bridal party as well as a ring bearer and several flower girls. They had 200 guests in attendance.

The couple chose hues of yellow and purple to decorate their reception. As the reception roared on, the couple decided to shake things up.

“Clay and I climbed a ladder to sit on one of the high beams in the barn later in the evening while people feared for our safety. Later, I grabbed some roman candles and rode behind Clay on the 4-wheeler as they went off. Quite the hootenanny.”

Clay is a bartender and Amanda is a housekeeper. The couple currently lives in Crested Butte, Colorado.

First dance: No One’s Gonna Love you (like I Do), Band of Horses

Honeymoon: Thailand

The proposal: He proposed to me during a morning picnic (which his mom and her friends set up early in the morning) on his grandma’s old farm, which is now Milkhouse Brewery.

Favorite part of planning: choosing clothes, buying flowers, designing invitations

Advice to other couples: Don’t get too serious or particular about the details

Mint, Peach, and Coral Wooded Wedding :: Ally and Dan :: Real Frederick Wedding

When Ally and Dan first visited Mountain Memories at ThorpeWood in January, it was hard for them to imagine what a spring wedding would look like. “It was freezing cold and covered in snow, but we fell in love with the venue. We liked the natural and quiet setting, especially imagining the greenery and blooming flowers.” Their vision became a reality, with a clear and bright wedding day in early June.

The outdoor ceremony, with 105 guests in attendance, was customized to fit Ally and Dan’s personalities and values. Ally’s cousin sang “Here, There, and Everywhere” by The Beatles. The couple chose to do a traditional handfasting ceremony and ended with an Irish blessing. The bridal party was made up of a matron of honor, a best man, two flower girls and two ring bearers.

A color palette of mint green, peach, and coral made up the decor. Many special details were incorporated, including pieces of fabric from her grandmother’s wedding dress and mother’s wedding hat, in Ally’s flower bouquet . The cake topper, hand painted wooden pegs, showed the couple in their wedding attire and also showed off their cat, Senna.

When asked what she enjoyed most about having a wedding in Frederick, Ally said, “We enjoyed making lots of trips up to the Frederick area together and getting to know the area. We discovered some great restaurants and made frequent stops at Flying Dog Brewery after wedding meetings.”

Dan is an accountant and Ally is a social worker. They reside in Arlington, Virginia.

Liller 40th Wedding Anniversary

Allonia and Jeffrey Liller of Thurmont celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on July 15, 2017 at the American Legion in Thurmont.
The couple was married at Calvary United Methodist Church in Mount Airy by the late Rev. James Talley on July 16, 1977. They honeymooned in Clovis, New Mexico where Jeff was stationed in the Air Force.
The couple celebrated their special day along with close friends and family with a luncheon, music, dancing, and karaoke.
Jeff has been employed by Williams/Transco in Ellicott City for 36 years and is looking forward to his retirement in the near future.
They have been blessed with 2 sons, Michael, whom they lost 4 years ago, Mark of Aldie, Virginia, and a daughter Jennifer and husband John Finn of Taneytown. Jeff and Allonia have 4 grandchildren, Davin, Ryin, Maddison, and Morgan.
