November Holly Hills Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Kaitlin + Chase

Kaitlin and Chase met on their first day of military service at their first duty station in Kansas. “We knew the moment we met each other that our relationship would result in marriage. The proposal happened the weekend before I was deploying for nine months.”

95 guests were in attendance for their November nuptials at Holly Hills Country Club, including six bridesmaids and five groomsmen. “I loved seeing Chase’s reaction when I began walking down the aisle. My veil actually flew off the moment our pastor announced our kiss, but it ended up pretty adorable.”

The couple chose a color palette of navy and blush for their decor. “Holly Hills Country Club was outstanding with every single detail. Since I was deployed, my mom actually toured the venue for me and gave me a full review. She’s my best friend and I trusted her opinion.”

Both Kaitlin and Chase are Army combat medics. They are currently stationed in Junction City, Kansas.

Andrea and Ryan believe in love at first sight. “We actually knew we were going to get married the day we started dating. In hindsight that sounds crazy, but when you know, you know. Our entire relationship was built around the knowledge that we were going to be partners for life. Ryan proposed officially in front of close friends at our house warming party in, just after the purchase of our first home.”

95 guests were in attendance for their June nuptials at Old South Mountain Inn, including five bridesmaids and five groomsmen. “Our ceremony was short and sweet. We wanted to be fully present for the entire ceremony, so for us that meant only including elements we fully identified with and genuinely felt. It was a nice blend of a traditional ceremony, with some additions we felt highlighted our incredible bond.”

The Old South Mountain Inn is an important place for Andrea, “My mother’s family actually owned and lived at and operated the South Mountain Inn for many years. My great great grandfather actually brought electricity to South Mountian. My mother and father were engaged at the South Mountain Inn, and had their wedding reception there as well.”

Andrea owns a health and wellness coaching business and Ryan owns a home improvement and contracting business. They currently reside in Baltimore.

Thomas and Danielle met at a concert when Thomas was stationed in DC as a US Marine. “He proposed to me in San Diego on the beach while I was visiting him when he was transferred duty stations.”

120 guests were in attendance for their August nuptials at Dunely’s Overloook in Walkersville, including four bridesmaids and four groomsmen. “Our ceremony took place outside in a field. It was thundering during the sermon from our pastor and we made it down the aisle as husband and wife just before an afternoon thunderstorm.”

The couple chose a color palette of red and gold for their decor. “Dulaney’s Overlook was exactly what I had pictured for my wedding when I first got engaged. I love everything about Frederick, the beautiful land and the nightlife in the downtown area. It was perfect for the different mix of guests that were coming.”

Danielle is a registered nurse and Thomas is in the US Marine Corps. They currently reside in Twentynine Palms, CA.

Kelsey and Mitchell attended the same high school but never crossed paths. They met in 2011 when Kelsey, who was attending Towson, was visiting a friend at Salisbury University. “ It was during Mitch’s 21st birthday weekend. We’ve been together ever since.”

Mitchell proposed during a hike in Harper’s Ferry with Kelsey’s parents and their puppy, Odi. “It was a 90-degree day and we were worried we wouldn’t make it to the top. We finally got there, sat on the rocks, and Mitch put a collar on Odi and sent him over to me.
I saw the collar on Odi and Mitch came over and got down on one knee. I’m so happy my parents could share in the moment and that they were there to get some pictures.”

105 guests attended their September outdoor ceremony at Glen Ellen Farm, including four bridesmaids and five groomsmen. “It had rained for two weeks straight so we were scared we were going to get a rainy cloudy day. The sun came out and the skies were crystal clear blue. The ceremony was short and sweet.”

The couple chose a color palette of burgundy, blush, navy, and gold for their decor. “My dad and I made a lot of our decor together – the arbor, cupcake stand, and windows with the seating chart.”

Kelsey is a CPA and Mitchell is an IT Infrastructure Technician. They currently reside in Thurmont.

Britt and Will connected online right before Will left for Army Ranger School training. The two exchanged addresses and made a promise to keep in touch through handwritten letters. “Starting off our relationship with this challenge really set the tone for our commitment to making the best of any situation.”

Over the next two years, they became inseparable and William proposed in December 2017. In January of 2018, William was relocated to Italy while Britt stayed in the U.S. They spent 8 months apart before William came home in August of 2018 for their wedding.

125 guests were in attendance for their outdoor August nuptials, including a 12 person bridal party. Family and friends stood under an arch that Britt’s father and younger brother built together. A close family friend officiated the ceremony. “We laughed, we cried and we even took a selfie. Our ceremony was by far our favorite part of the day and we will never forget the feelings we felt standing under those trees.”

“Our catering was 100% vegan and you would never know. We had pizza and lasagna and cannolis and cupcakes. We loved how our Italian inspired menu turned out and were even more excited that it was totally cruelty-free.”

Brittany is a photographer and William is a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. They currently live overseas in Vicenza, Italy.

September McClintock Distilling Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding : Kim + Bill

Kimberly and William met during our bar trivia at Champions in Frederick. “When I arrived that night, I found out that Kim had recently joined our team through mutual friends. Over the next few weeks, we continued to meet up every Thursday for trivia, where I began to learn more about Kim. Eventually, we started to get together throughout the week for runs through Baker Park and fitness classes at our local gym.”

William proposed during a weekend getaway to Charlottesville. “When we finally got to our house for the weekend, I gave my pocket one last pat before getting out of the car. As my heart started to race, I asked Kim if she’d like to check out the gazebo before heading into the house. Once Kim turned away from me, I quickly got down on one knee.”

120 guests joined the couple for their September nuptials, including five bridesmaids and seven groomsmen. The had readings by each of their sisters during the indoor ceremony at McClintock Distilling.

“We spend a lot of time in downtown Frederick and McClintock is a gorgeous venue. We loved the industrial, yet rustic feel and the staff was awesome to work with. We had a make your own sundae bar for dessert.”

William is a mechanical engineer and Kimberly is a quality assurance specialist. They currently reside in Frederick.

Jessica and Nathan met in high school but didn’t start dating until five years later. “We kept in touch all through college and began dating in 2014.”

The proposal revolved around their mutual love for hiking. “We went to Piney Run Park in Eldersburg and stopped at a bench looking out at the water. Nathan surprised me by pulling out a ring and asking me to marry him.”

The couple chose a color palette of tine and gold to complement the fall colors. “Our favorite parts of the wedding day were celebrating and dancing with all of our friends and family. We had a unique guestbook- everyone signed small birch-rounds to be placed in a shadowbox frame that we’ve hung up in our living room.”

Elizabeth and Christopher met through mutual friends at their church in Washington, DC, Grace Meridian Hill Presbyterian in 2014. Christopher proposed on the beach at sunset three years later in Mancora, Peru.

The forecast for the wedding day in August called for thunderstorms. “We had been resigned to the likelihood that we would deal with some rain. However, we lucked out and ended up having a beautiful, sunny, wedding day.”

100 guests were in attendance for their outdoor wedding at Glen Ellen Farm, including four bridesmaids and three groomsmen. “Our ceremony was held by a pond. We decided to write our own vows, which ended up being a great decision–we felt it was an authentic way to celebrate our relationship. Our good friend and mentor, Pastor Chuck Garriott, officiated the ceremony.”

The couple chose a color palette of navy blue and purple for the decor. “We love music and our DJ gave us an opportunity to pick a sample set of songs that reflected our interests and tastes. We also ordered fun temporary tattoos with a picture of us from Etsy and they were such a hit! The vendor hand-sketches the tattoo based on a photograph. It was a silly favor, but it was a lot of fun and people loved it.”

Beth is a visual stylist for Chanel and Chris is an attorney at King & Spalding. They currently reside in Washington, DC.

Kira and Cody met four years ago through mutual friends. “We met at a friends birthday party, even though we grew up less than a mile apart and went to the same high school. That friend ended up being my maid of honor.”

Cody proposed to in November of 2017 at the Gettysburg National Battlefield in front of the Pennsylvania Monument. “He asked me to marry him there because that is where he originally asked me to be his girlfriend. It was a total shock.”

My maid of honor also gave a short reading of her choice which was really special.”

The dancing was so much fun and everyone really came together to make this day the best it could be for Cody and I. We had a peanut butter candy bar because I’m obsessed with anything peanut butter.”

Cody is a first-grade teacher for Washington County public schools and Kira is a library media specialist for Washington County public schools. They currently reside in Greencastle, Pennsylvania.

The couple chose blue as their main color for their wedding decor at Glen Ellen Farm. “We both love the Frederick area. We liked that Glen Ellen was secluded and just an overall beautiful venue. We always wanted an outdoor wedding and Glen Ellen fit our dream perfectly.”

When asked about what advice she would give other couples currently planning their wedding, Valerie shared, “Planning goes by quick so enjoy it. Things will go wrong on your big day so just laugh it off. Because when the day is over, you’re with your better half for the rest of your life.”

Valerie is a general manager for Advance Auto Parts and Weston is a service technician at Len Stoler. They currently reside in Eldersburg.

Intimate, One Guest Farm Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Lauren and Shaun

Lauren and Shaun met on the beach at The Outer Banks in North Carolina while they were both on a beach camping trip with friends. “Shaun messaged me on Facebook with the word ‘hey,’ and the rest is history. We were together for three and a half years before we tied the knot.”

Shaun proposed to Lauren in Costa Rica, walking along the countryside.

The couple chose Rocklands Farms in Poolesville as their venue. “It was intimate, with just us and Lauren’s daughter. We laughed and got to be ourselves. It was perfect. We live close by and it just felt right to do something simple, intimate, and close to home.”

Lauren shared that an unexpected guest came to the ceremony. “A cat tried to crash the ceremony and was apparently rubbing itself on my wedding dress without me realizing it. My daughter tried to shoo it away, all without me knowing!”

Lauren is a general manager of an IT service provider and Shaun is a logistics coordinator for a government contract. They currently reside in Poolesville.

Shriver-Talis Engagement

Steven and Donna Shriver of Kensington, Maryland, announce the engagement and upcoming nuptials of their daughter, Laura Christiana Shriver, to Paul Gregory Talis. Paul is the son of Scott Talis of Philadelphia and Wendy Talis and Enrico Bianchini of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. A May 4, 2019 wedding is planned at a private farm retreat in the Catoctin Mountains.

Laura Shriver is a 2016 graduate of Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, with a B.A. degree in English and Law in Society. Laura is the Grants Writer and Communications Director at Moveable Feast, a non-profit organization in Baltimore. Paul Talis is a 2017 graduate of Hood College with a B.A. degree in Biology. Paul works as a research assistant at Johns Hopkins University in the neuroscience department at the School of Medicine in Baltimore.

The couple met at Hood College and make their home in Towson, Maryland.

“The theme of the Styled Shoot was to showcase the country charm of Glade Valley Farms with an elegant touch.

This styled shoot was so much fun! It brought in some amazing vendors together to create our vision. When Glade Valley Farm contacted us about doing a styled shoot at their venue we were so excited. We decided to play with the greenery of the grounds and the surrounding rolling hills into the theme of the shoot. We hit the jackpot when Ory Florals joined the team. He created the most natural and woodsy centerpieces for each of the tables. As well as the ceremony arch and bouquet. To bring in the elegance we placed touches of gold. Which you can see from the table numbers provided by Glamour N’Glitz Events. The chargers, china, and flatware provided by Vintage Affairs. We really believe it brought everything together.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Scholtes of Frederick, MD are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Michelle Scholtes, to Dr. Timothy Strobel, son of Robert and Judy Strobel of Denver, CO. Michelle, a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, is Manager of Strategic Development Events at Carnegie Science; and founder of Hangry District, a food blog and catering business based in Washington, DC. Tim, a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, is a Staff Scientist of Materials Physics at Carnegie Science’s Geophysical Laboratory, where he and Michelle met in 2012. Michelle and Tim live in Washington, DC with their three purrrfect cats, where their September wedding is planned.

Bradley and Cathleen met in July of 2010 through a mutual friend. “We started dating three months later. We have been together for eight years this past September.”

“Bradley called me and asked if I wanted lunch from Chik-Fil-a since I was harvesting crops all day. So he stopped by the field on his way home to bring me food. He rode around with me while I finished up the farm I was at and helped me move the combine to another farm to keep harvesting. By this time it was starting to get dark and I was running low on fuel. He insisted I stop combining for the evening so he could fill my fuel tank up. While we were waiting on the tank to fill up he got down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him.”

250 guests were in attendance for their outdoor August nuptials including five bridesmaids and four groomsmen. “ We got married in the middle of the field next to our house across from my parent’s farm overlooking the farm and other fields. The scenery was perfect. The arbor was borrowed from my sister’s wedding that they had made. My talented mother in law also made entryway doors for the entrance of the ceremony. The sunset was beautiful and a hot air balloon appeared just in time for our pictures after the ceremony.”

Bradley works for his parents at Wastler & Son, Inc. as a foreman. Cathleen works for her parents on their dairy farm. They currently reside in Union Bridge.

Geoffery proposed to Stacy in Little Italy in Baltimore. “I had no clue. We went to an Italian restaurant and were having an amazing time. As our plates were taken away, Geoffery got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was a memory I will never forget.”

Sydney and Lawrence through mutual friends. “We had known each other for years, going to the same middle school and rival high schools.”

Lawrence proposed after celebrating Sydney taking her last nursing school final. “The cover up story was that Lawrence was buying new wheels and tires for his truck, but he really bought a ring. He proposed at one of our favorite restaurants in Greenville, North Carolina called Sup Dogs.”

We had a wine box ceremony where we wrote letters to each other on our wedding day to read at our one year anniversary.”

“Our favorite part of our wedding was everyone out on the dance floor nonstop. We loved seeing everyone have a good time and enjoying themselves.”

Sydney is a registered nurse and Lawrence is a technician at a motorcycle shop. They currently reside in Greenville, North Carolina.

Nissel-Vigus Wedding

Madelyne and Daniel met while working at a bike camp for individuals with disabilities for Howard County Recreation & Parks during high school while Maddie attended Middletown High School and Dan attended Loyola Blakefield High School in Baltimore. Both graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2016.

Dan completed his Masters in Recreation Therapy from Indiana University in May 2018.

Maddie began her Masters in Elementary Education at UMD in June 2018.

The two were married in a Catholic Mass and Marriage Ceremony at Holy Family Catholic Community Church in Middletown, MD

The couple resides in Burtonville, Maryland.

Australian and American Musket Ridge Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Kaitlyn and Cameron

Kaitlyn and Cameron met while completing degrees at Ball State University in Indiana. “We both moved away from our homes, Cameron from Australia and me from Maryland. We were both involved in the athletics program at Ball State, which is where we met and developed an unbelievable friendship. As time went on this friendship grew stronger and stronger, and in the Fall of 2016, we started dating.”

When Cameron’s mother came to visit from Australia, he orchestrated a very special dinner with Kaitlyn’s parents joining.” We ordered dessert and it came out with a special phrase attached it.”

140 guests were in attendance for their outdoor June nuptials at Musket Ridge, including four bridesmaids and four groomsmen. “My favorite part about the wedding was that we had tons of friends and family from all walks of life, both from near and far. All of our guests created an unforgettable atmosphere, which helped create many lasting memories.”

The couple set up a candy station for guests to take home as a thank you for celebrating. “The candy represented some of our favorite candy from both the United States and Australia.”

Cameron is a collegiate strength and conditioning coach and Kaitlyn is a USA Gymnastics Club Coach. They currently reside in Lexington, Kentucky.

August Holly Hills Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Kari and Alex

Alex and Kari met through Kari’s older sister. “ He finally asked me on a date and I said no. I just wanted to be friends for a while first. Then I agreed and we didn’t call it a date, that was the deal. It was just lunch with a friend. We saw each other every day after that date, we never got tired of each other.”

Alex proposed at Federal Hill in Baltimore. “Alex started to say how much he loved me and went down on one knee before I knew it we were engaged. It was magical, people all over were cheering for us. If that wasn’t enough, Alex had then pointed out his photographer Angie, who had been documenting this entire thing.”

80 guests were in attendance for their outdoor August nuptials at Holly Hills Country Club, including three bridesmaids and three groomsmen. “The background of the mountains and golf course truly made our ceremony picturesque.”

Decor in navy, rose gold, and gold accented the white and greenery the couple chose for their reception and florals. “I wanted something glam yet natural.”

The couple served Krispy Kreme doughnuts, a favorite of theirs, to guests at the end of the evening.

Alex is an employee at T Rowe Price and Kari is an employee at AP Benefit Advisors. They currently reside in Hampstead.

Romantic June Stone Manor Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Jenn + Dom

Jenn and Dom met in middle school but didn’t connect until their senior year in high school. “ We spent the whole summer getting to know each other, and then in the fall our relationship began.”

Dom proposed to Jenn while they were visiting family in Calabria Italy for a wedding. “A few days before our trip ended he brought me down to my favorite spot on the coast in Scilla and under the moon and stars overlooking Calabria and Sicily he asked me to marry him.”

225 guests were in attendance for their June Stone Manor wedding, including eight bridesmaids and eight groomsmen. “My parents gifted me a horse and carriage ride for the ceremony entrance, it was a fairytale beginning. We had a friend marry us because we wanted someone who knew us. Our closest friends stood by our side. It was short but magical and sweet.”

Peach, pink and yellow made up the colors for their wedding decor, which Jenn described as “whimsical romantic.” When asked why they chose Stone Manor for their wedding, they shared they, ”loved how open it is out there. The fields, mountain views, all the greenery. It’s very picturesque.”

Jenn is a hairstylist and Dom is a general contractor. They currently reside in Westminster.

Jessica, daughter of Michael and Dawn Archibald of Frederick, Md and Anthony Milin, son of Nicholas and Carol Milin of Los Angeles, CA are excited to announce their engagement.

The bride-to-be is a 2010 graduate of Tuscarora High School and a 2014 graduate of Towson University, Towson, MD with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is employed by University of California San Diego Hospital.

The groom-to-be is a 2008 graduate of Loyola High School and a 2013 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He is attending Scripps Research Institute, San Diego, CA, studying for his PhD in Bio-Chem and Bio-Physics. Their wedding is planned for April 27, 2019

Fall Holly Hills Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Katrina and Michael

When Katrina moved to New York City she decided to join Bumble, a dating app, to meet new people. And there she met Michael. “We spent our first date together playing games at Dave and Busters, meeting dogs, eating NY’s infamous pizza , and dancing in Penn Station.”

At a birthday celebration for Katrina in November of last year, Michael surprised Katrina with having their dog, Maui, bring a basket full of flowers and the surprise ring to her in front of loved ones as he proposed.

140 guests were in attendance for their outdoor September wedding at Holly Hills Country Club including eight bridesmaids, eight groomsmen and their three beloved dogs. “Our wedding ceremony was exactly how we wanted it to be- short, sweet, but so meaningful. The weather was absolutely perfect and it was a Christian-based ceremony.”

The couple also held a tea ceremony. “We loved participating in the ancient traditional tea ceremony as a part of the Chinese-Indonesian culture, respecting our elders and bringing both families together in unity.”

The couple chose a color palette of Champagne, rose, gold and burgundy for their decor. “The entire time it felt like everyone was just very joyful and it was so romantic. From the perfect sunset to the packed dance floor all night long, ending with lit sparklers, we could not have asked for a more dream wedding.”

Katrina is a Registered Nurse, Director of Medical Support for an urgent care center and Michael Kelly is a Certified Professional Dog trainer & behaviorist. They currently reside in Germantown.

Biggus-Hewlett Engagement

Sontia Biggus and Kemoy Hewlett announce their engagement.

The Bride had a solo during the Christmas program at Strong Tower Christian Church back in 2016 and the groom was visiting the church. Once the service was over, the Bride got the groom’s number and they’ve been inseparable since.

Kemoy is a delivery truck driver and Sontia is a school testing coordinator.

April Dulaney’s Overlook Wedding :: Real Frederick Wedding :: Caitlyn + Andrew

Caitlyn and Andrew met when she was a lifeguard and Andrew was a diving coach in 2009. “We dated on and off. He went to school in Pennsylvania and I went to school in North Carolina. We began dating seriously in 2015 when Andrew was stationed at Fort Bragg.”

Andrew proposed on 4th of July weekend in 2017, “in front of my whole family at my aunt’s river house. There were even fireworks set off right after the proposal over the water. It was perfect.”

120 guests were in attendance for their barn wedding At Dulaney’s Overlook, including four bridesmaids, four groomsmen, and one flower girl.

“We had a traditional Presbyterian ceremony. It was important to us for the ceremony to be a highlighted part of the day. Our backdrop was a custom piece built by my father.”

The couple chose a color palette of gray, crimson, and green for their reception decor. “I wanted a whimsically elegant look.”

Caitlyn is an editor and Andrew is an army officer. They currently reside in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
