Dan planned his proposal to Courtney for nine months.
The day started with Dan’s sisters whisking Courtney away for a day-long scavenger hunt that included many of the places the two had spent time together, including a local farm and ice cream parlor. The final stop was their old dorm building. “I could see Dan standing there waiting for me. I eagerly opened the door and heard the music. The floor was decorated with candles and rose petals. Behind him, my eyes darted to hundreds of scrapbook pages on the wall filled with pictures and dating memorabilia. That wasn’t the only surprise though- Dan had me wave at a camera in the corner of the room and then explained that our family and friends had been watching the proposal and were waiting in the next building over to celebrate with us!”
135 guests were in attendance for their outdoor ceremony at Linganore Winecellars, including seven bridesmaids and five groomsmen. Dan’s father was the celebrant.
“Dan and his dad got old barn wood and gorgeous 100-year-old wooden doors and built an arbor for us to be married under and a set of doors to create a ‘back of the church.’ It was very important to Dan to not see me until the double wooden doors opened up.”
The couple chose to play up the rustic barn location with fall colors, including burgundy and ivory with touches of oranges and yellows.
Dan and Courtney had Ben and Jerry’s ice cream set out with the cake. “The dance floor was cleared when Ben and Jerry’s started serving desserts- but for a good reason! It was delicious!”
Courtney is a teacher in Frederick County. Daniel works for the U.S. Government. They currently reside New Market.
